Hereβs what Iβve learned over the years being a parenting coach ‡οΈ
π‘ Childrenβs brain is not fully developed and the part of the brain that is responsible for impulse control is very under constrution until early to late 20s I
Aaaaand it goes fully offline when they are dysregulated, meaning that they are not capable of controling themselves in those moments
So yelling or shaming them wouldnβt help in the moment, it would just add MORE dyregulation
After learning this and adjusting my approach to handling my kids fighting, here is what happened:
β¨ Both kids felt seen and heard
β¨ Behavior is addressed when their brain can actually learn
β¨ They start to build emotional regulation skills to use when they are older
β¨ Our connection stays intact
Dealing with your kids fighting all day long?
Let me help! Iβll share with you what Iβve learned and will help you shift your approach in these moments so that you can have a more peaceful time with your family

As the school year wraps up, itβs completely normal for us, parents, to feel that familiar mix of excitement and . . . dread π³
The shift from a structured day to a summer break schedule can disrupt the peace youβve been working so hard for

π A lack of structure and a chaotic flow to your days
π Guilty, like you are constantly failing to do βenoughβ for them (and yourself)
π Dreading the logistical (and emotional) overwhelm of that upcoming family vacation

This type of transition is a powerful mirror, reflecting where we are struggling with control, perfectionism, and self-care, and an invitation to do the deeper, quiet work required to navigate these storms with more calm

Being a parent I have experience giving up things I love:
β¨ sleep
β¨ me time
β¨ perfectionism
But give up coffee??? NOPE πββοΈ thatβs not happening anytime soon
I love my daily coffee ritual, I love my good quality coffee at home
I can say Iβm a huge coffee snob and Iβm proud of it π

Teen travels done right πππ
πΎ SAVE this for the next time youβre traveling with the whole family
βοΈππ€π¬ππ§ ππ€πͺπ§ πππ₯πππ©ππ©ππ€π£π¨
On trips away from home, the less you expect, the calmer youβll be. Expecting your kid to eat healthy or stay off technology as they do at home? Prepare for power struggles and tantrums. While Iβm not suggesting you should abandon all boundaries, allowing some flexibility while traveling can help everyone
βοΈ ππ£π«π€π‘π«π ππ€πͺπ§ ππππ£ ππ£ ππ‘ππ£π£ππ£π
Let your teen feel in control by involving them in planning activities on your trip. Let them choose and plan some of the activities, especially the ones they are interested in. This gives them a glimps to do their own planning in the future
βοΈπππππ ππ€πͺπ§ ππππ£ π©π€ ππππ ππ’ππ§π©
Do you have a system when you pack your suitcase? Do you roll your clothes or use cubes? Let your teen pack their own bag. Show them some packing techniques, give a checklist, and let them do it. This not only leaves you with more time to pack yourself but also shows your teen that you believe in them
βοΈππ‘ππ£ ππ§ππ πππ’π
If your trip is packed with a lot of activities, have some free time too. Let your teen (and yourself) relax for half a day at the hotel or a cafΓ©. Once recharged, everyone be excited to explore more

Conflicts are inevitable when spending all your time together. Irritation often stems from being tired, hungry, or bored. Try to recognize which one is happening and let them them release their frustration to defuse the situation faster. Remember, you might be irritable for the same reasons they are, so meeting everyoneβs needs as much as possible is key
βοΈ πππ© ππ€πͺπ§ ππππ£ ππππ
This will teach independence and confidence. On our recent trip, I let my teen handle all walking direc

When we are overwhelmed by our kidsβ behavior, our default setting is usually reaching for punishments, empty threats, time-outs, and removing privileges
Thatβs what traditional parenting told us to do to enforce compliance
In reality, punishments usually just escalate the situation . . . they force our kids into survival mode
The nervous system canβt learn when it feels unsafe
These βscript switchesβ are about more than just different words, they are a fundamental shift in perspective
I offer you to move away from trying to control them and move toward co-regulating with them
If youβre tired of the constant power struggles and ready to break the cycle of punishment send me a DM and letβs start a conversation about how you can build real, lasting connections
