Mayo Clinic Minute: Tai chi keeps seniors on their feet 06/05/2026

One of the reasons I'm so passionate about teaching Tai Chi is that research continues to show benefits far beyond flexibility and relaxation.

Tai Chi has been shown to improve balance, mobility, confidence, and help reduce fall risk as we age.

This short Mayo Clinic video does a great job explaining some of those benefits.

If you've been thinking about trying Tai Chi, I'd love to have you join us in Rancho Bernardo.

Grateful for the opportunity to bring Tai Chi & Qigong to the amazing community at Serving Seniors. 🙏

One of the most rewarding parts of teaching is seeing people embrace movement, balance, wellness, and connection through practice.

After class, Serving Seniors shared:
“Seniors have been saying so many great things about this class!”

Hearing feedback like that truly means a lot.

Tai Chi and Qigong are gentle yet powerful practices that can help support:
• balance & stability
• mobility & posture
• stress reduction
• coordination & focus
• healthy aging & overall wellness

Thank you again to Serving Seniors for the opportunity to work with such an inspiring community.

Today was more than just a class.

I had the privilege of beginning Tai Chi with the incredible community here in San Diego.

From the moment you walk in, you can feel it. This is not just an organization, it is a place where people are cared for, supported, and reminded that they matter. Through their work providing meals, housing, health care, and connection, they are changing lives every single day.

I am deeply grateful that they have welcomed Daniel Benitez Martial Arts into their community and trusted me to contribute in a small way.

Seeing the smiles, the focus, and the willingness to move, learn, and try something new… it is a reminder that it is never too late to grow, connect, and feel better in your body.

This is what community is all about.

Some teachers show you techniques. Others shape the course of your life.

Happy 60th Birthday to my Sifu, Martin Ferreira.

For 37 years, you’ve not only taught me martial arts, you’ve helped shaped my life. Thousands of students and hundreds of instructors carry your influence, discipline, and example forward every day.

I will always be grateful that you took me under your guidance when I was just 16 years old as your first instructor student. That trust changed the course of my life.

What sets you apart is simple, but rare. You lead from the front. You never ask us to do what you haven’t done yourself. Every lesson is backed by experience, effort, and personal mastery.

To this day, I’m honored to continue training under your guidance each week.

Thank you for everything you give to all of us.

Happy Birthday, Sifu. 🙏

Your legacy lives through all of us.
We continue the path because you show us the way.

I had the opportunity to teach an introductory Tai Chi class of an ongoing series at the Lemon Grove SD County Library, and it was an incredible experience sharing this practice with the community.

Tai Chi is often described as “moving meditation,” but beyond that, it helps improve balance, coordination, posture, and mental clarity, benefits that are accessible to anyone, regardless of age or experience.
Thank you to Diego County Library for hosting this class

I’ll be offering more classes in the San Diego community as well as ongoing sessions in Rancho Bernardo

If you’re interested in joining a class, comment “Tai Chi” or send me a message and I’ll share the details.

Intro Tai Chi and Qigong Class. Grateful for the incredible turnout at our introductory class this past Saturday.

It’s clear there’s a growing interest in Tai Chi and Qigong here in our community, not just as exercise, but as a way to improve balance, reduce stress, improve movement and reconnect with the body.

What stood out most was how quickly everyone began to settle into the practice, even in their first session.

If you’ve been thinking about starting, now is a great time.

I offer beginner-friendly classes throughout the week, including smaller evening sessions for more personalized guidance.

Feel free to reach out if you’d like more information or join us at an upcoming class.
