Hello there,

We wanted to reach out and let you know that choreography submissions for the 2019 Boston Contemporary Dance Festival are due May 15th! The festival brings a diverse array of contemporary dance artists together from across the United States and will be held on August 10th at the Huntington Theatre. Last summer, BCDF 2018 presented work of over 50 dance companies/artists from around the nation with Camille A. Brown & Dancers as the headliner. Please do not hesitate to email [email protected] with any questions. http://bostoncontemporarydance.org/2019-application
Hello San Diego State University Division of Dance!

Urbanity Dance is holding auditions for our annual Summer Intensive program! We offer many auditions in different cities, but we also accept video auditions until February 28th.

Video auditions include all of the following: Name and age A 1 minute solo that includes a pirouette, leap/Jump combo and clear technical aspects within a contemporary or modern style. Please wear clothes that allow instructors to see clean lines and facility. Individual auditions at Urbanity are available. If interested please contact [email protected]. Please view our website for more details.

Our summer intensive is a two-three week program with training in contemporary, ballet, and specialty classes from Urbanity's Company members and esteemed faculty. The intensive also includes performance opportunities in the 2019 Boston Contemporary Dance Festival, career panel discussions, the chance to participate in a professional dance video shoot, and consideration for a placement in our Apprentice Program.

For students wishing to stay in Boston during the Summer Intensive, or for those who live too far away to commute every day, we highly recommend participating in our Residency Program.

For more information, visit our website: www.urbanitydance.org/summerintensive

We hope to see you there!
I received an email today. There was a picture of the SDSU dance team that looked almost entirely white, then a picture of a diamonds dance team that looked almost entirely non-white.. Just seemed odd, so now I'm curious, is this a coincidence or is there something more?

The Division of Dance at San Diego State University is a laboratory for exploration, integration, and conscious action: an ecosystem where emerging artists practice, connect, create, and reflect with depth and permeability.

In this academic program, dance is personal, physical, social, and political. We prepare developing artists for dynamic, self-authored, and innovative careers in dance with a curriculum that fosters collaboration and mindful leadership. Our approach to dance cultivates dynamic relationships informed by and influential to the world around us. At the heart of this rigorous study is a love of dancing.

SDSU Be International

Maybe it's the Holidays. Maybe it's the fact that her study abroad experience in the UK is coming to an end. Either way, kinesiology and dance major Erin de Leon is in a reflective mood. For her latest blog post, she ponders some of the things she *won't* miss about life in Europe. #GoBigLeaveHome

Our Dance Making students had a great surprise last week as Emeritus Professor of Dance Patricia Sandback came to work with the class on directing, communication, and performance.

What a valuable eye-opening class it was for our students!!

Thank you Professor Sandback for you work with us!!!

Our Story

The Division of Dance at SDSU celebrates dance that is inspired by our shared engagement, experiences, and explorations within our ever-changing world. We honor our lineages as we embrace unfamiliar territory. Our program is a laboratory for embodiment, integration, and conscious action: an ecosystem where emerging artists practice, relate, manifest, and articulate with depth and permeability. In our academic and practical approach, dance is personal, physical, social, and political. These elements combine to create an environment where dance education can be transformational. Our curriculum fosters collaboration and mindful leadership, preparing young artists for dynamic, self-authored careers in dance and other fields. At the heart of this rigorous and radical program is a love of dancing.
