And when life feels like that, it’s really easy to put ourselves last.
But moments like this are actually when taking care of our own physical and mental health matters the most. When we feel stronger and more grounded, we’re better able to support the people we love.

Today, I did my first “normal” workout since breaking my hand in January.
And before I even picked up a weight… I felt it.
That quiet little fear.
The sneaky thoughts that creep into the back of my mind:
“What if you lost it?”
“What if you’re back at square one?”
“What if you have to start all over… again?”
After weeks of healing, slowing down, walking more instead of lifting — it would’ve been easy to believe that everything I built was gone.
But then I started moving.
And something beautiful happened.
My body remembered.
The strength was still there.
The coordination was still there.
The discipline was still there.
My inner athlete hadn’t disappeared.
She had just been resting.
Yes — there are still a few things I need to modify.
Yes — I’m easing back in strategically.
But I’m NOT starting from scratch.
I’m resetting.
And that realization hit me hard.
Because military life does this to us ALL THE TIME, right?
PCS.
Deployments.
Injuries.
Kids get sick.
Stress.
Seasons of uncertainty.
We think we’re “behind.”
We think we’ve lost progress.
We think we have to start over.
But when you’ve built a strong FOUNDATION…
When you have the right SYSTEMS…
When you have SUPPORT…
You don’t start from zero.
You reset.
You rebuild.
You rise stronger.
If you’ve been feeling like you’re starting over lately — you’re not.
You’re in a reset season.

January did not go how I planned. At ALL!
A couple weeks into the new year — right when routines were clicking and momentum was building — I broke my hand playing softball. 😅
Suddenly, workouts looked different.
Life slowed down.
And those “perfect” New Year plans? Completely thrown off track.
And honestly… I know I’m not alone in that.
January has a way of humbling us.
We start with the best intentions — and then life shows up.
Injury. Stress. Deployments. PCS chaos. Unexpected TDY. Kids. Exhaustion. Lingering holiday burnout.
So if January felt messy or discouraging for you, I just want you to hear this:

Nowhere else in Japan has dug into my heart as much as Hiroshima.
The history of the relationship between the US and Japan is very complicated.
The mere fact that we have to opportunity to live in this country and share a friendship today never escapes me. But spending a few days in Hiroshima last Fall, it really hit me just how precious that relationship is.
Peace is precious. It takes effort. It takes empathy for others. And it often requires forgiveness.
In a present world that feels so full of hate and violence and rising conflict, Hiroshima stands as a reminder of what can happen if we forget what hate and “othering”can lead to.
Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Never forget.

I wasted YEARS doing things that didn’t work—and I don’t want you to do the same...
