Happy birthday to Class of 2016 Hall of Famer Dave Ullman!
Ullman is a decorated sailor, having earned numerous regional, national and world championship titles and Rolex Yachtsman of the Year in 1996. Ullman is also a renowned coach, working with the 2000 America’s Cup team “America True,” the 2003 America’s Cup team “Oracle,” and the US Olympic Sailing teams, among others.
When coaching, Dave tells his teams that “Sailing is about not doing things wrong. You have to minimize mistakes, so your score line is even with no major failures. Eliminating risk is the key to success, having everything worked out and sailing quite conservative, no-risk regattas.”
Dave opened the first Ullman Sails loft in Newport Beach, California, in 1967 and, over 50 years, has built a trusted international sailmaking group with sailmaking experts in over 75 locations worldwide.

Our Business Operation
Due to Covid 19 we’ve changed our operations and will run all business for the Mexican sailing community through our Ullman Sails San Diego loft. We will continue with visits to Puerto Vallarta and other Mexican cities and will be back to sponsor the Baja Haha 2020!

Our team and our story: The idea to open a sail loft in Mexico came from a meeting between a great Mexican business woman and and an excellent American sail maker. A warehouse was transformed into a loft space and in June 2016 this sail loft opened on the grounds of Los Arroyos Verdes in Bucerias, Mexico. Bucerias is located between the various marinas, Nuevo Vallarta (20 min) and Marina Vallarta (30 min) to the south east, and Marina La Cruz (15 min) to the west.
Our international team consists of 4 Mexicans, 2 Americans, 1 British-Mexican and 1 German-American. Everyone is bringing a unique experience to the team.
