When I stopped outside this morning, I was taken aback by the clouds. It looks like the clouds were individually placed in the sky. As I reached for my phone I thought, “Why not slow down and take it in before I skip on to taking a picture I’ll never look at?” And I did. It started my day right! The beauty surrounding us and within us can be hard to see when every day life weighs us down. Finding beauty takes distance from the mundane to create a new perspective. Often times we easily spot beauty when we’re fortunate enough to have the opportunity to get away from our regular lives, and other times we need to seek a new perspective within the boundaries of our daily grind. Maybe try taking a new route to an old place without using your phone, or ask a stranger what their favorite coffee is and order that instead of your usual, or listen to ocean waves instead of music when you’re working, or finally plan a weekend away like you’ve been promising yourself you would. You just never know what beauty you will find when you take your brain off auto-pilot. Have a beautiful day...or at least I hope you do!

This is how it should be... labels on the foods you eat can only box you in and make you feel very limited.

You should eat what makes you FEEL the best and helps you reach your health goals. You should not choose foods simply because they're on the "good" list or avoid foods because they're on the "No" list.


If those choices happen to align with a labeled way if eating, great, but I would suggest you still just call it simply "food".... it will be freeing to drop the labels. Trust me.

#trainerTuesday Our trainer spotlight is on Nicci Howard today. She is a mom of 2 girls and has been a personal trainer for 7 years and teaching group fitness for 17 years. She is also certified in nutrition and holds specialties in pre/post natal fitness, fitness for diabetics and metabolic training.

She began teaching fitness during her undergrad and has had a career, gotten another degree and had her amazing family along the way but fitness and health along with guiding people to a healthier life has been a constant over the last 17 years. At Infinitely Fit she teaches PLYOGA or any other class needed!

Helping others realize their potential and learning to live a healthier lifestyle is her passion. "You must be strong enough to support yourself and your family. Healthy can be fun and it doesn't have to be hard!"

It's really that simple, just remember to do it! I have to laugh at that one because it's TRUE but if we're honest with ourselves, it's not that simple to "just remember". That's why we must practice being mindful on a regular basis. Even the people who've taken our Mindful Eating workshop need to go back to the info and remind themselves. Once a member, always a member in the Mindful Eating group.

We usually hit a limit before we decide to make a change. That is one of the steps to creating change. If you're on a journey, what was your limit or that thing/moment/spot that instigated your change process?

This is true for many situations in life: work, relationships, health...
I'd like to say "don't let yourself get to that rock bottom point" but in all reality, you MUST get there before the need to make change burns so hot you can't deny it.

She is also co-founder of Fitness + Foolishness, @fitnessandfoolishness is certified as an ACE Group Fitness Instructor and is Barre Intensity trained and is currently in the process of finishing a Yoga Alliance certified 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training. She started teaching various group exercise classes while in college. She received her BS in Business Administration from Cal State San Marcos and her MA in Communications Management. While her post-college career path led her to marketing, events and business roles in NYC, she continued to stay passionate about fitness and always stayed physically active outside of the office by taking every type of class imaginable. When Marisa and her business partner, Nicole, decided in 2013 to move forward with building their dream business, Fitness + Foolishness, which combined their passions of travel, fitness and fun, Marisa slowly started devoting more of her time to building a fitness career and away from the typical 9-5.
