Here are some pics from an event we hosted an event at Otay Lakes County Park to support the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program, coordinated by SDCountyHHSA.
Forty-six adults and children participated in hikes, a monarch butterfly craft, lunch (sponsored by the YMCA of San Diego County) and story sharing. It was a rewarding experience for all, and we look forward to the next collaboration!
I recently joined YMCA of San Diego County to raise awareness for National Runaway and Homeless Youth Prevention Month.
The work the Y does for San Diego is so important. Every child deserves a home, a loving environment, a supportive structure, and a path to purpose and meaning in life.
Earlier this month, "A roof for every youth!" was heard from Long Beach to Balboa Park. On behalf of the Board of Supervisors, we were honored to stand with the YMCA of San Diego County to bring awareness and prevention for youth homelessness.
Nuestro querido secretario general el Dr. Oscar Velasco Flores recibió con una calurosa bienvenida la visita a México de: YMCA of San Diego County y World YMCA 👏🏻.

Guardian Scholars Parenting Group recently met for their second class of the year at YMCA of San Diego County. 10 parents, along with their 11 children attended for an evening of learning and fun!
The group learned about communication skills and conflict resolution from a guest speaker representing Kids Turn, which provides groups, trainings, and support to parents that are separated and co-parenting.
Our generous volunteers provided childcare which allowed precious time for our Guardian Scholar parents to spend time bonding with other parents who share similar experiences.
This group wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of our community and the help of our volunteers. If you are interested in getting involved, visit the link -

Thank you YMCA of San Diego County for inviting us to join you in helping to raise awareness around National Runaway and Homeless Youth Prevention Month.
It's vital that we invest in unhoused young people, so let's commit to making sure these youth feel safe, seen, and supported.
A roof for every youth! Yesterday, our community came together for the Youth Runaway and Homelessness Awareness Walk and Rally to shine a spotlight on the more than 1,800 youth that experience homelessness every night in San Diego. Our staff members, youth and community members marched to the rally in Balboa Park where we saw amazing speakers from our partners at the YMCA of San Diego County, San Diego Workforce Partnership, SANDAG - San Diego Association of Governments, Youth Will , Our Time to Act United, California Coalition For Youth and County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher!

Two YMCA of San Diego County staff members will begin a five-day, 125-mile walk from to the U.S.-Mexico in Monday in an attempt to increase awareness of the experiences of runaway and youth.
The second annual “Solidarity Journey” by Justin Lipford and David Baker coincides with National Runaway and Homeless Youth Awareness Month and is part of the YMCA’s “Rooted in Community” campaign, which was described by Krysta Esquivel, the vice president of social services for the YMCA San Diego County, as “meant to create space for our communities to envision what is possible when we invest in young people experiencing housing instability or homelessness, and what happens when they feel seen, heard and supported.”
The walk will also include discussions in , , and San Diego seeking to raise awareness for youth on a regional and statewide level.
Lipford, the director of engagement for YMCA of San Diego County, and Baker, the program director for Housing Our Youth at the YMCA of San Diego County, will begin their walk at 9 a.m. at the YMCA Fairfield Family Branch.
Lipford and Baker will walk 16 miles to the Covenant House in Anaheim where staff from YMCA San Diego County and Covenant House and Anaheim area residents will have a community conversation, including what can be done collectively to influence systemic change, Esquivel said.
Homelessness impacts one in 10 people ages 18 to 24 in a year, and one in 30 adolescents ages 13 to 17 experience homelessness without a caregiver, with non-white and youth disproportionately impacted by homelessness, Esquivel said.
accounts for more than one-third of the nation’s unaccompanied nationally, Esquivel said.
YMCA Youth & Family Services has nearly a dozen to help youth facing instability, including providing housing, essentials, safety, counseling, education and employment assistance, Esquivel said.

One invaluable lesson from Southern California Association of NonProfit Housing (SCANPH) 34th Annual Conference was the importance of long-term commitment guided by shared values and goals.
Whether it's using best practices to co-locating ECE facilities in communities that often have limited childcare options or navigating complex investment landscapes, solutions to community needs depend on forging partnerships.
