Meet my little friend!! Welcome home Riley ❤️ 🐶

10/08/2020

You can’t undo 10 years of habits, poor nutritional choices, and sedentary behavior in 10 days.

Here’s what I’ve heard a million times before when people apply for coaching with me…

❌ “Trust me, I’m different. Just put me on super low calories and hours of cardio for 8 weeks. I have *insert event here* coming up.”

❌ “Just help me lose the first 15 pounds super super quick!! Then I’ll lose the rest sustainably”

❌ “I can do it! I’m mentally tough I know can diet super super hard for a few months and be fine”

My answer every time - nope! Why? Because extreme crash dieting/restriction often leads to weight regain from overeating, or worse, binge eating disorder.

I would MUCH rather have a client lose weight slowly and keep it off for the next 10 years vs. diet super hard, lose a bunch of weight for an event, and gain it all back (and then some) in a few months. Sustainability is key to a successful fitness journey.

If you want to see progress faster, focus on optimizing your protein intake and caloric deficit, sleeping well, crushing your workouts with intensity, and drinking your water. You’ll feel good, have energy, and be able to create long-lasting changes. The time will pass whether or not you crash diet for 4 days and give up or spend the next 4-8 months properly running a deficit - why not do it the right way?

YOU CHOOSE YOUR HARD 💪🏼

You know what’s way harder than kicking ass in the gym? Feeling weak & hating your body. You know what’s harder than managing your nutrition? Overeating constantly & feeling guilty. You know what’s harder getting 7-10 hours of sleep a night? Waking up every day and feeling like garbage. I know, I’ve been there. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Life isn’t easy, success isn’t easy, changing your physique isn’t easy. But if my version of “hard” gets me results, I’ll take it every time. 👏🏻

“Trust me, I work really hard. I’m grinding all day every day,” said no one I’ve ever talked to who was actually working hard. 😬

In reality, a lot of us are working at 40-50% capacity - and that’s PERFECTLY fine and healthy if you manage your work flow correctly. The idea that you should give 110% all the time to your work just isn’t realistic. Burnout is real & making time for self-care is important. ✌🏻Here’s my advice: why not give maximum effort & focus to your work 50-60% of the week instead of giving a half-assed effort 24/7?

Particularly in the entrepreneurial world, there’s some sort of perceived “glamour” in being on your phone/email all day and all night, 365 days a year. Here’s the thing: there’s no way you’re operating at max capacity if you’re never putting your phone down and taking time to focus on yourself.

I personally try to get the majority of my time-sensitive work and calls handled in 3-4 days during the week. It’s important to me to have a few days a week where I primarily work on new projects, podcast/edit, write, hit a second workout, take time for myself etc. Guess what? I’m the most productive and successful I’ve ever been. I’m not tied to my email or phone, I don’t feel like I’m constantly “on-call,” I have boundaries, and most importantly I can FOCUS when it’s time to work because I’m not exhausted. 👏🏻

You don’t need to feel guilty for taking breaks. You also don’t need to get on Instagram and post about how hard you’re and every time you sit down to work. Annoying and toxic, I’ll pass!

Spend less time talking about “hustling” and “working hard” and more time figuring out how to optimize your life for maximal productivity AND enjoyment! 😜

💪🏼 these joggers are giving me LIFEEEE 👏🏻

The biggest thing fitness has taught me is PATIENCE. Too many people are obsessed with quick results - a 30 day weight loss challenge, getting a six pack in a week, or growing glutes in a month. I’ve been training for almost 5 years now, and I still have tons of progress to make. Nothing worth doing happens overnight!

The time will pass whether or not you put in the work. Fitness isn’t a destination - it’s a daily commitment to improve. Worry less about “when” you’ll see results and more about “how” you’ll get there. ❤️

2015➡️2020
Giving MAJOR side-eye to past Dani. 👀 Here are some things I believed in 2015:
1️⃣ If I ever weigh more than 95 pounds, I’ll look terrible
2️⃣ Animal products are bad
3️⃣ Cardio is more important than weight training
4️⃣I just need to lose more weight if I want to have abs
5️⃣Girls shouldn’t lift heavy

Hello from 2020 Dani, who doesn’t cut out ANY food groups (except stuff I’m allergic to), weighs WELL over 95 pounds, kills it in the gym with heavy ass weight training, and built abs through compound movements and muscle gain, not just body fat loss. 😅

So many of my clients come to me with these same beliefs (and more.) They’ll get bulky if they lift heavy, they’ll gain fat if they eat more than 1,200 calories a day, or they’ll look worse if they cut back on cardio. Sometimes the scariest part of getting in shape is letting go of what you’ve been told so you can lean in to the truth. 🤷🏼‍♀️

GREAT TRAINERS PRACTICE TRAINING! 🤯

Would you want to work with an accountant who hasn’t filed taxes for anyone before? What about an attorney who has yet to try a case? Or a heart surgeon who hasn’t even WATCHED a surgery? Probably not. 🤷🏼‍♀️ So why would you work with a trainer who hasn’t ever trained someone before, watched a training session, or had supervised training hours?❗️Fun fact: You can become a “certified personal trainer” without EVER training another human body or watching a personal training session. WTF, right? 🧐

At , we believe there’s a better way! All of the trainers who come through our in-person program train MULTIPLE clients in supervised sessions, and get feedback during and after. Our online interns also have the opportunity to watch and critique live sessions! I got trained by intern today, and he crushed it! 👏🏻

Don’t settle for a piece of paper - certified doesn’t mean qualified. If you want to become a GREAT trainer, DM me for more information on our internship in La Jolla, West Hollywood, Santa Monica, or virtually! 💪🏼

You: “I don’t have time.”
Me: *dives face first into the Pacific Ocean just to feel something* 🌊

I get it. You’re busy, I’m busy, we all have a lot going on. *but* reality check: time is a finite commodity, and you spend it on what you value & prioritize. If you value Netflix, long naps, and ignoring the pandemic and partying with friends, that’s what you’ll spend time on.

You have 24 hours every. single. day. If you’re a tired queen like me, you spend 9-10 of those sleeping. If you have a 9-5 job, there goes another 8 hours. Now you have 7 hours. Take out an hour for working out, an hour to hang out/relax, and another 2 hours for spending time with your family/friends. Three hours left. Take our another hour for miscellaneous things - 2 hours.

That gives you (at minimum!) 2 hours every single day where you can work on projects, goals, and opportunities that are important to you. That’s 10 total hours during the week, not to mention all day Saturday and Sunday.

Next time you want to claim you just “don’t have time,” reconsider where you actually spend your time. In 2020, I decided to stop telling myself I was “too busy” and cut the excuses. So far: I wrote a book, started a podcast, tripled the revenue my business was earning, and got in great shape. YOU HAVE TIME, FAM. 🤩

not smiling because I took this at 6am and my brain wasn’t on yet 🙃

I love training first thing in the morning - best way to start the day! When do you work out? ⬇️⬇️

PS - new episode of my podcast dropped today! I interviewed Guy Kawasaki about marketing in the social media age, and his experiences working with Steve Jobs to market the first Mac in 1984. to check it out!

Ever googled this before? I know I have, especially recently with so much fear and uncertainty in the word. I still don’t have all the answers, but here are a few things I do know…

1️⃣Happiness doesn’t come from external factors. “I’ll be happy when I lose 10 pounds” or “I’ll be happy when I make a million dollars” actually leads to MORE unhappiness, because (trust me) you’ll forever be moving the goalpost. It’s GREAT to have aspirations, but not if your happiness is contingent upon those accomplishments.
2️⃣Self-hatred is actually the easy choice. Making an active decision to employ positive self talk is way harder. Make the hard choice!
3️⃣MOVE. No bad day ever got worse with a quick walk or some exercise. I often get asked how to make more money, grow on social media, or reach goals faster. My first answer is ALWAYS to start working out. Nothing makes your mind stronger (and therefore helps you get to your other goals faster.)
4️⃣Create more meaning in your life. Build stronger relationships with the people around you, find purpose in the work that you do, and stress less about the little things.

If I happen to find the magic potion for happiness (other than white claw) I’ll let you know. 🤷🏼‍♀️In the meantime, those are some key points I’ll be working on.

Let me know what makes YOU happy 🙂⬇️
