Makar Sankranti has been the most auspicious and significant day for the Hindu community and actually for all life forms on Earth.
Nivedita shakha in Sandiego celebrated Makarsankranti utsav with great zeal on 25Jan 2025 with 56 volunteers including kids. The celebration included an informative talk on the topic and followed by a joyous Haldi Kumkum 😊.
We kicked off the program “Know my Hindu Values” for kids between the age of 5 to 12.
We had til gud activity for them to show how it is made and why we make it during Makarsankranti.
We encouraged everyone to adopt Surya Namaskar (sequence of impactful Yogasanas) in daily lives. The 10 step Yogasanas helps our body to be in perfect harmony with the energy of Sun and thus get maximum benefits. We did all 13 sets during shakha.
We are delighted to share some of the pictures from various activities conducted as part of Makar Sankranti and on going Surya Namaskar Yajna.

HSS volunteers participated at the Food and Grocery donation drive on 01/03/2024 at San Ysidro, CA in collaboration with Hearts and Hands Working Together. The event was a great success and together we donated over 4200 lbs of Produce to the Hispanic community. Volunteers from Sewa, HSS and Ekal participated and the spirit and enthusiasm displayed by everyone inspite of heavy rain was exemplary. Special thanks to all the Sewa LEAD Program Students who helped package all the food over several days. Event was also attended by Antonio Martinez and Irene Lopez of the San Ysidro School Board who were in profound appreciation of the Community Service work done by the Hindu American Organizations of San Diego.
