In Eritrea, a recurring saying among regime supporters is, "Instead of being subjugated by others, let him subjugate us." This mindset is flawed. Instead of seeking leaders, Eritreans must strive to establish a country governed by law and legitimacy. A nation ruled by a constitution, not by any individual in power, is essential. Supporters and opponents alike should unite in the fight for constitutional governance.
Government supporters have no guarantees if the current regime collapses. Likewise, the opposition should focus not merely on toppling the regime but on prioritizing the rule of law. In a lawless country, any new government that arises will offer no assurance of stability or justice. Therefore, all Eritreans must direct their efforts towards establishing and upholding a constitution, rather than targeting individuals.
