American amateur cyclist Erik Levinsohn () sits on the leaderboard for Hawaii’s Mauna Kea KOM, now just 33 seconds behind former pro , who narrowly reclaimed the top spot on what he calls the hardest climb in the world.

Racing for Dolce Vita Cycling, Erik approached the climb with respect more than expectation:

“Phil is by far a stronger cyclist than me so when my wife and I traveled to Hawaii in April 2025, I didn’t really think taking his Mauna Kea KOM was remotely feasible. Mostly I just wanted to get to the top.”

This wasn’t their first showdown. Erik and Phil previously went head-to-head at the (in)famous Mount Washington Hillclimb (BUMPS) in New Hampshire—where Phil once again had Erik’s number, even crashing at the finish line.

Respect earned. Rivalry ongoing. 💥🚴‍♂️

Racing since 2004 (yeah, since he was 16), Will brings deep experience and a true love for the long, hard road races. In 2026, he’s setting his sights on a mix of stage races across the country and the classic Northern California one-day showdowns.

When he’s not chasing results, Will is a CPA in government oversight by day—and a fierce advocate for animal welfare off the bike, volunteering with nonprofits working toward meaningful social and political change for animals within a generation.

Smart, steady, and all heart.
