When we started GemJoy, we tested a version with paid unlocks. Dragons for $4.99. Fairies for another $4.99. The unicorn pack would have been $12.

And every time we watched a kid open the box, we felt sick about it. Because the magic isn't supposed to come with a paywall. A grandparent buying this for their grandchild shouldn't have to do mental math at the till. The whole point was "here, look - magic exists."

So we ripped the paywall out.
