My trip to the Yukon to take part in the Yukon River Quest was nothing short of life-changing. My 10 days in the Yukon have been a whirlwind of nature, challenge, friendship, and self-discovery โ the kind of experience that words will never fully capture.
What started as a bucket list race for me/us slowly became something much deeper. At first, it felt like just another trophy/accolade. But somewhere along the way, it became a beautiful shared experience.
What once felt like an impossible feat became our new baseline. What once was a large source of stress (s/o to not getting eaten by a bear ๐
) is now one of my favorite memories. What was supposed to be a finish line became the start of a tradition we hope to continue on for years to come.
Sure, I could be bummed our race was shortened to 304km/189mi โ but all I can feel is gratitude. Gratitude for the wild beauty of the Yukon, for the chance to experience it with friends like , , โ and for , who went above and beyond as our support crew (this was your race too). Grateful for the paddling community, who welcomed us newbies with open arms and no ego, just a deep love for the sport. And above all, grateful to be able-bodied and present enough to soak in every last second of it.
If you followed our race โ thank you. Your support truly meant so much more than you know ๐ฅน
At the start, I couldnโt imagine why anyone would want to do this more than once. Now, with the full 715km/444mi still calling, you bet weโll be back ๐
