WATCH TO THE END! Christina MacDougall completed her English Channel swim on September 22, 2026 under the master piloting of Stuart Gleeson on Sea Leopard Charter (and Sean!) and observed by the Channel Swimming Association Ltd

Sylvia () crewed along with open water training partner Dianna Appelgate.

This was Christina’s third trip to England having been blown out by weather never getting to start. This trip, she was able to not only start her swim but smashed the swim with authority.

Last year after not getting to swim, she did a quick pivot and completed the Catalina Channel. She has also completed the Lake Tahoe Triple Crown (SwimTahoe.com), Round-Trip Angel Island and multiple training swims (6 & 8hrs) with us.

Christina has a demanding job, a fantastic husband, family needs and still kept her pool and open water training on point. She also volunteers and leads Saturday morning group swims in San Francisco’s Aquatic Park for One with the Ocean.

Christina is a gem of gems and we’re incredibly happy for her successes - including completing 20 Bridges 3 days after her English Channel swim!

Another fun GGB swim with 63°F water (16.5°C). The swim is about 40 to 45 minutes for most folks, it’s a variation of an Alcatraz swim when the currents are flooding in the morning and not to be missed. There’s nothing like swimming with the current and covering almost 3 miles faster than you’ve ever swam before. Join us, we swim year-round!!

Marathon swimmers don’t just train when the water is flat and comfortable. Training through varying conditions, water temperatures, bodies of water makes the big swims happen. Long demanding sets in the pool, weight training, and time in the open water… makes it all happen.

It’s Thursday ☀️ so let’s make it a quick swim from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Bay Bridge. 10km in just over 90 minutes with a fast flood. ☀️

Congratulations, John-Charles Curley of Dublin, Ireland who completed the 21-mile Circumnavigation of San Francisco this morning in 06:06:42.

The course circumnavigates San Francisco County, from the county line on the Pacific to the county line inside the Bay at Candlestick. It's stunning, challenging and fast-moving when conditions are just right!

John brings a list of swims from around the globe - various swims in Ireland including the North Channel; English Channel, Lake Titicaca, Strait of Juan de Fuca, Round-Trip Angel Island and quiet a few more!

Clare O’ Connor made a return visit to San Francisco with John to crew his swim. Always a delight!

Aaron Jarvis served as Observer for the Northern California Open Water Swimming Association.

September 9, 2020
We swam a Round-Trip Angel Island despite it appearing to have bad air quality. But the AQI was fine, San Francisco only appeared to have become hell… 😈
