Utah's first Para Table Tennis Program catering to the entire wheelchair population of the Intermountain West!
Who:
We aim to tailor the program mainly to paraplegic participants. We will encourage any family and friends to attend and participate as well. This means the program is open to all ages and abilities. Greg Lee and Claire Simon, along with several other volunteers from Skyline High School’s National Honors Society will direct the activity. They will teach the rules and regulations of table tennis
to beginning players, set up equipment, collect stray balls, and aid in game play. Itinerary:
During classes, participants will be free to play with whomever they choose on the level of competition which they choose. There will be program facilitators on hand to teach playing skills and rules. Participants can play singles (one on one) or doubles (two on two) matches. Based upon turnout and interest, we may hold a monthly table tennis tournament during which participants can gain experience playing in an official, elimination-based competition. Facility:
Classes will be held at NEUROWORX, a state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility. The Para Table Tennis Program is in conjunction with the Fitness Squared program of NEUROWORX, offering unique fitness opportunities to its participants. Benefits:
Table tennis is an awesome way to get active physically while bonding with loved ones. It involves not only muscular ability, but also mental strength and coordination. It is a refreshing way to exercise as a new and out-of-the-ordinary sport. As it it played at the Paralympic level, it is inspiring to players of all abilities. it is a level playing field for both able-bodied and adaptive participants, enabling unique camaraderie building among competitors and teammates as everyone has a similar ability to play.
