Travis Jewell Fishing

It has been a crazy fishing season.

I had to back out of the St. Lawrence event. Even though my entry fees are paid up and I covered my travel partners for the rental house, I just couldn’t justify a 3,800-mile round trip and 14 days away.

Between signing up for this season and now, my workload and responsibilities have compounded. As a Senior Project Manager in the powerline industry, I have an intense workload. The energy sector is seeing exponential growth. ⚡️

Throughout the year, work has interfered with fishing, and fishing has interfered with work. I’ve spent many hours during tournament practice sitting in my boat on Starlink doing Teams meetings instead of looking for fish.

This week I had several large projects kicking off that I simply couldn’t be away from. I called Dirt Rocks and let them know what was going on. Their response was simple:

“Family and career first.”

That says a lot about the kind of people they are, and I’m grateful to represent a company that truly cares.

Even though this affects the fishing dream, there’s a bright side in every situation.

Because I swallowed my pride and backed out of this event, several opportunities have already been created. I have a solid career that provides for my family. My family has sacrificed so much while I’ve chased this fishing dream, and I’ve missed more events and special moments than I’d like to admit. Because I’m not on the road this week, I’m able to finish up these projects at work and then fly out to meet my family on a trip they already had planned.

I’m grateful for the dream, but I’m strengthened by the provision.

I believe life is abundant when you realize it’s about the journey. Let’s see where the next chapter leads. 💪

While towing the boat through Louisiana on my way to a fishing trip, I made a detour to explore one of the strangest places in America. 🤯

Researchers believe this mound of dirt was built thousands of years ago using baskets and manpower in approximately 90 days. The guides said building this mound today would take roughly 31,000 dump truck loads. 🤔

At weigh-ins, anglers usually say “I’d like to thank my sponsors…”

But partnerships like this are bigger than just logo placement.

The reality is that companies outside the fishing industry supporting tournament fishing are incredibly important to the future of the sport. Non-endemic partnerships are a huge part of what keeps this level of competition alive and growing.

Dirt Rocks understands something a lot of companies miss… bass fishing is full of hardworking, blue collar people who know what it means to build things, solve problems and chase big goals.
