This group spent last week exploring the beautiful Rogue River in Oregon with OARS - Whitewater Rafting for our annual fundraiser trip. There is nothing quite like connecting on the river with other like-minded folks. We ran some rapids, made some memories, and of course - there was some singing. We had the BEST time yesterday with sixth graders from McKinley School! 👏 Our kayak adventure in the Santa Barbara Harbor was the culmination of a fun watershed education program. During classroom lessons with Channelkeeper’s Penny Owens, students learned about the path pollution takes through the watershed to the ocean as well as the tools that scientists use to monitor water quality. They learned how important it is to keep our environment and our water clean.
Yesterday was the first time many of these students had ever been kayaking! We had so much fun splashing, paddling, looking for sea creatures, and exploring!

Have you ever done a tour of Santa Barbara Wine Country? Since we are still new to SB we thought how fun it would be to get out and experience the region like a tourist. And wow, it was a fun day of non-stop adventure in Santa Ynez Valley with Santa Barbara Wine Tours 🍇🍷❤️
First we were picked up in a van by our driver and tour guide Sunny. She made our day ☀️as she whisked us and 8 other wine lovers to the valley.
Our first stop was the gorgeous Roblar Winery Roblar Winery & Vineyards and what a great way to start the day, on their gorgeous terrace sipping their amazing wines, including some of my favorites; an aromatic white, a fresh rosé and a delicious Sangiovese. All served by the knowledgeable and friendly host Brian who really knows how entertain a group of thirsty visitors! ❤️🍷
Next up was a visit to Firestone Winery, Firestone Vineyard and Winery where we were treated to lunch by PANINO.eat in Firestone’s beautiful barrel room. We sipped amazing wines, surrounded by historic memorabilia including photos of Firestone founders with men of winemaking history.
Lastly a fun visit to the cute town of Los Olivos, California And we were in for a real treat to end the day, with a cupcake and wine pairing SAARLOOS AND SONS. Their friendly tasting room host Paul gave us all the fun tutorial on how to successfully pair. What a unique idea and each cupcake 🧁 🥂Enjoy Cupcakes went perfect with the delicious wines. My favorite was the Raspberry Mango Chardonnay Cupcake pairing! 😋

We are hiring Outdoor Education Trip Leaders for the fall season. Training takes place early/mid-August and is REQUIRED. Trips run from August 22nd through November and can be anywhere from 1 day to 5+ days. We have numerous outdoor education locations in/around Santa Barbara, including the Channel Islands and Big Bear.

The Santa Barbara Wildlife Network is working to save and care for an overload of Pelicans right now. Volunteers and donations are needed to help manage their care.
WEDNESDAY UPDATE: Another 34 pelicans were rescued yesterday and brought to SBWCN. This brings the total number of rescued pelicans since Saturday morning to 92. We are transferring many of these birds to other wildlife rehabilitation centers to help lighten the load. Our team is working hard to respond to all of your calls and rescue as many of these birds as we can.
The cause of this widespread condition is still being confirmed, but here are some ways you can help:
1. VOLUNTEER. We need extra hands to help us clean enclosures, wash dishes, and help around the hospital. Even if you can only volunteer a couple hours, we can use your help. Please email [email protected] with the subject line "Pelican Help."
2. DONATE. Financial donations are vital to continue purchasing medication, fluids, fish, crates, and medical supplies, as well as cover the costs of extra staffing and transportation: www.sbwcn.org/donate
3. CALL THE HELPLINE. If you see a pelican that appears lethargic, disoriented, or is in an unusual location, please call us and leave a detailed message with the location of the bird: 805-681-1080
