If you live in a bigger body AND experience low back pain, you may have walked into a yoga class and wondered, “Is this really designed for someone like me?”
Aqua Yoga offers something different.
The water supports and surrounds your body, reducing the load on your spine and joints while giving you space to move, stretch, strengthen and breathe.
No need to make your body smaller.
No need to look a certain way in a pose.
No need to be flexible, graceful or “good at yoga.”
💙 Your body belongs in yoga exactly as it is.

So true.
Think you’re too stiff for yoga? Aqua Yoga might change your mind.
If chronic back tension has left you feeling tight and inflexible, getting down on a yoga mat—and trying to fold yourself into poses—may not sound very appealing.
In Aqua Yoga, the warm water supports your body and gives you more freedom to explore movement at your own pace.
You don’t need to be flexible to start. You just need a body and a willingness to move.

I spend about 25% of my class time saying Breathe!
Why Breathing Matters for Back Pain
Breathing and back pain are more connected than most people realize.
When we’re stressed or in pain, breathing often becomes shallow and fast.
This tells the nervous system to stay alert.
Slow, diaphragmatic breathing sends the opposite message.
It stimulates the vagus nerve, helping activate your body’s relaxation response.
When you combine slow breathing with warm water and gentle movement, you’re supporting your nervous system from multiple directions at once.
That’s one reason so many people finish an Aqua Yoga class saying,
“My whole body feels different.”
Because it is.

Water changes physics.
When you’re immersed to chest depth, your body weighs only a fraction of what it does on land.
That means:
Less compression through the spine
Less stress on painful joints
Easier balance
More confidence moving
For many people with chronic back pain, this is the first time they’ve been able to move comfortably in months, maybe even years.
And that’s important.
Because the more positive movement experiences your brain has, the more it begins to trust movement again.
Confidence is therapeutic.
Water gives people the opportunity to rebuild it.
