‼️ SAVE THE DATE ‼️

tomorrow is guru purnima, a time dedicated to honoring the teachers who have come before us, and who generously share these teachings with those walking this path.

it is because of them that i am able to share these teachings with others and i am deeply grateful for that opportunity and responsibility. 🙏🏼

these teachings have offered me comfort. they have asked me to dig deep, to face the light and the shadow, and to not just share these teachings but live with and through them.

if you’ve ever been called to deepen your practice, to explore the realms of the subtle body through meditation, pranayama, or yoga nidra, this offering is for you.

hosted by New Yoga Savannah and taking place the last weekend in september. more details and registration info dropping soon!

slide into my DMs if you’d like to be added to my newsletter and receive more information.

i hope you’ll join me

👂🏼👀👃🏼👅✋🏼

we consume the world through the five senses of taste, touch, sight, smell, and hearing. the mind, body, and our nervous system has to digest this constant influx of sensory stimuli. the primary purpose of digestion being a means of nourishment, therefore separating what we can assimilate from that which can’t be processed (“waste”).

but often, we think of nourishment only coming from the foods we eat. and this is certainly a very important form of nourishment but not the full picture of supporting our vitality.

have you ever stopped to consider the forms of nourishment you’re taking in through all of your sensory organs. and do those forms actually nourish and support you or do some of them leave you with an “empty” or “unsatisfied” feeling?

pictured here are some of my favorite forms of nourishment!

these are just some of the questions we will contemplate during “seed + soma” as we explore the first pillar of health, “nourishment”.

we begin tuesday and there’s still time to register! registration is open until noon, monday, june 29th. we will gather for 6 tuesday evenings, starting june 30th. each session will be recorded and available for 3 months. accessible topics and practices with no prior experience or interest in yoga or ayurveda necessary.

i hope you’ll join the journey to remembering your joy, luminosity, and health through nourishment, rest, and lifestyle.

dm me with any questions and you can ✍🏼🆙 via 🔗 ⬆️

how do you relax? how do you rest? how do you sleep?
does a common thread run through the answers to these inquiries?

2nd pillar of health: rest (includes relaxation + sleep)

would you believe me if i told you that there is already something available that can help rebuild immune function, reduce nearly all clinical symptoms of all diseases, mollify painful memories, decrease trauma, fight malignancy, regulate appetite and cravings, fine tune metabolism, recalibrate emotional brain circuits, enrich memory, learning, logic, decision making, clarity, discernment, and helps you navigate the next day with more ease by reducing impulsivity…

and much much more…

and it’s absolutely free…

what is this “something”?

SLEEP
so why then, would i designate the second pillar as rest? well, according to ayurveda, the second pillar of health is “nidra” (sleep). but how many of us struggle with sleep? whether it’s difficulty falling asleep, trouble staying asleep, restless sleep, or not feeling rested after a night of sleep, all of us have probably experienced sleep disturbance of some sort. whether long-term or short-term, we know how challenging it can be to show up for life and the next day’s responsibilities when we are sleep deprived. and according to recent sleep studies, almost all of us are living with a sleep deficit.

if you’ve ever Googled “how to get better sleep”, the majority of results mention creating a strict sleep schedule, getting a better mattress, taking a warm shower or bath a couple of hours before bed, or taking something like melatonin or herbal formulations. and while these things can certainly be helpful in setting you up for better sleep, there is a precursor to sleep that’s often not mentioned.

REST
you’re probably saying, “but i do rest…i read a book before bed, i watch a little TV, i take a short walk or listen to soothing music…”
but are you really “resting” when you’re still “doing”?

and just like sleep, rest has a precursor…

my movement practice on monday is a neighborhood walk with the dog which looks very different than my movement practice on tuesday, which involves picking up and putting down heavy things (weightlifting)…

✨how harmonizing your habits supports health✨

dis-ease, according to ayurveda, is caused by “going against” our natural rhythms. dis-ease not only materializes on a physical level, but also more subtle levels. ayurveda would say that the subtle layer is where dis-ease begins. but often we remain unaware of any imbalance until the physical symptoms begin to manifest and create challenge in our daily lives.

what are these natural rhythms? there are many; some would say, even endless, rhythms, cycles and patterns. but the most obvious ones are the ones we experience daily: sunrise and sunset, feeling hunger, and the energy of waking up or settling into rest at night. the world around us and within us is composed of patterns within patterns (fractals, if you’re into maths). we experience daily cycles, seasonal cycles, hormonal cycles, lunar and solar cycles, and more. we can use these cycles, or patterns, to guide us towards health instead of away from it. because these cycles and patterns arise naturally in nature, and because we ARE nature, we have a framework with which to work that supports our vitality. it’s when we go against these natural rhythms that we begin to create dis-ease.

modern technology is amazing on so many levels, but in many ways it continues to disconnect us from the truth of who, or what, we are…nature! we have access to light 24/7 which takes a toll on our sleep cycles. we can grab almost any food, from anywhere in the world, anytime of year, but we may be unable to digest it well because our digestive fire is in a different season than what we are consuming. and how often do we ignore signs of fatigue or depletion in favor of getting more work done or scrolling on our devices?

🍲🍯🫚⚡️🫜🌿

i’ve been dreaming this into fruition for a while and i’m elated to finally bring it into the world!

i love to cook and nourish others through food! i get super excited when someone asks me how to make ghee or an ayurvedic inspired recipe! and, i’m so grateful for the community that has welcomed me since moving to savannah 11 years ago!

these are the things that have inspired this first gathering at my home in may. i’m calling it “cultivating community”. my hope is to bring people together for an evening of medicine and connection through nourishing foods, learning easy ayurvedic kitchen rituals, and of course, good conversation. and for this first gathering, rachel of .rest will be offering reiki as part of the opening circle.

so, if this sounds like something that you’d be interested in, i would be honored to host you in my home! you’ll receive a nourishing meal (vegetarian) including an ayurvedic herbal tea. you’ll learn to make ghee and two other ayurvedic kitchen staples that support digestion. we will make an ayurvedic inspired dessert together. and we will spend time in community with each other. you’ll leave with your own little jar of homemade ghee and a recipe bundle that includes dinner and dessert items, an ayurvedic tea, and each of the kitchen staples that were made in community.

there are only 6 spots available! i hope you will join and invite a friend!
