Meet Instructor Amy A. She is visiting us from Seattle and is subbing at all 3 of our locations for the next month! See her every Monday night in the month of March at Club Pilates Scottsdale Promenade!!

Amy had never been that interested in the world of fitness, but when she discovered a passion for dancing Argentine tango in 2008, she realized she needed an exercise routine to improve her stamina so she could keep up with the tangueros on the social dance floor. She tried walking, running, yoga, weight lifting, and other cardio-based workouts, but quickly got bored with each new endeavor and just couldn’t stick to anything. She also found herself more stiff and sore while dancing after these workouts instead of feeling energized and flexible. Amy’s first introduction to Pilates was through Mari Winsor DVDs back in the late 90’s, but it wasn’t until she got on a reformer for the first time in 2012, while living and dancing in Buenos Aires, that she connected the dots and discovered that Pilates was the answer to taking her tango to the next level. Her balance, posture and flexibility improved. She felt lighter in her movement, and the chronic pain in her feet, ankles and knees subsided even though she was dancing nearly every day in 3-inch heels until the wee morning hours. In need of a career change in 2021 after Covid took its toll on her family-run business, Amy decided to enroll in the Club Pilates instructor training program, and is excited about this new endeavor. When she’s not on the dance floor, Amy enjoys traveling around the world for more tango and to visit her nine nieces and nephews. She also fosters kittens for several local rescues and lives in Seattle with her own two rescue cats, Pip and Grayson.

True or False: Pilates is like Yoga.

False! Although both can be done on a mat, there are some major differences. Pilates incorporates repetitions of muscle-building movements initiated from the core, while Yoga focuses on holding various poses and binds. While the mental component of Yoga is more reflective and meditative, Pilates mind-body focus is on making sure your movements are safe, precise, effective, and connected to your breath

Happy Chocolate Chip Day!!! Want to celebrate? (Who doesn't?) See below for a Healthy Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe you won't want to miss out on! 🍪

- 2/3 cup + 1/2 cup oat flour (140g)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 4 tbsp coconut sugar or brown sugar
- 4 tbsp regular sugar, unrefined if desired
- 1/3 cup chocolate chips, or more if desired
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp vegetable or melted coconut oil
- 3-5 tbsp milk or milk alternative, as needed

- Preheat oven to 380 degrees.
- Combine dry ingredients and mix very well.
- Add wet, and form into a big ball. Now make little balls from the big one. For soft cookies, refrigerate until cold (otherwise, just bake right away).
- Bake 9 minutes. Remove from oven when they’re still a little undercooked, then it’s important to let cool 10 minutes before removing from the tray, as they’ll continue to cook while cooling.
