I had the honor to work with an NCO in the US Army with a herniated disc this afternoon. Introducing him to Foundation Training: the exercises, decompression breathing & a method to strengthen his back core muscles to avoid having surgery. Hooah!
Strength training is key as we age ladies..and men. Work it into your workout to slow down the progression of age on the body.
Far too many women still will not lift heavy enough to stimulate hypertrophy (muscle growth)‼️
💪For this to happen, you need to challenge and stimulate your muscles so they break down and repair bigger and stronger.
👍A good rule of thumb is to perform 2 or 3 sets of about 10 repetitions or as many reps as you can complete in the suggested time frame.
💪Try to fit strength training into your schedule 2 to 3 days a week.
💪Research shows that when endurance athletes slow down with age, a major reason why is because their muscles simply aren’t contracting as quickly and as powerfully as they used to.
‼️The slowdown is preventable and fixable with strength training‼️

I first saw Dr. Stacy Sims speak at a USA Cycling Coaching Summit. I was blown away. I had never heard anyone talk about the stuff she was addressing: how your period was a time of power, how PMS impacted thermoregulation, menopause and carbohydrates. She had a line following her out the door when she got off the stage. I was in that line. And when I finally got to speak to her it was like I was looking at someone I'd known forever. "You must have a book. I want to write it," I blurted out at her. She smiled and said, "Sure!" That was the beginning of a really beautiful relationship...and a book I'm so damned proud of--ROAR. Hot take: Nutritious food is good for you because all the nutrients are in the right balance with other nutrients. Anytime we pull one out and think "that's the one!" we run into trouble. It's like when beta carotene was thought to be a super antioxidant to help people at higher risk for lung cancer...except beta carotene supplements increased their lung cancer incidence so much the study had to be halted.
