Chops and Lifts For A More Powerful Swing | Scottsdale Golf Performance Training

Training the core can have a huge impact on your golf game.

Your core links your lower body to your upper body and acts as a transmission between the two - transferring force from one to the other.

Power that is generated from your lower body travels through your core, into your upper body, into the golf club and eventually is transferred into the ball - resulting in a golf shot.

If your core is weak, much of the power that is created from your lower half dissipates as it travels through your body. By the time you hit the ball, only a fraction of that power remains and your distance suffers.

However, if you have a strong, stable core you'll better transfer power through your body into the golf ball. Meaning more of the power that your legs and hips generate will reach the ball - resulting in more distance.

Just doing crunches and situps, however, won't translate into a strong core for golf. Golf is a rotational sport so you need to train your core to control rotation.

Chops, lifts and anti-rotation presses are the golfer's answer when it comes to training your core for a stronger, more powerful swing.

How To Get A Bigger Shoulder Turn In Your Backswing | Scottsdale Golf Performance Training

Making a full shoulder turn in your golf swing is critical for hitting longer, straighter golf shots.

The first, and arguably most important, benefit of a full shoulder turn is increased distance. The torsion created by “coiling” your shoulders against your hips allows you to generate exponentially more power and clubhead speed with less effort. A full shoulder turn also promotes a larger swing arc which leads to more power and greater distance.

Making a full shoulder turn also allows the downswing to follow the correct sequence – hips unwinding first and the shoulders following. This sequence allows you to keep the club on plane and promotes an inside-out swing path, minimizing erratic shots.
