Peter Attia on The Best Exercises for Longevity 04/07/2023

I'm used to thinking about making things more efficient. To daily decrease, and to cut out on wasted motion. This was a good reminder to me that sometimes it’s important to add things into your life.

For instance, smoking is a habit that can double your risk of death.

However, having high cardiovascular fitness is a 5 fold reduction in all cause mortality.

Strength training can bring about another 3 fold reduction.

That means exercise is better than quitting smoking for health and longevity.

For me, exercise is one of those things that I put into the category of small and incremental improvements over time, but it's a good to remember that small and incremental over time can often lead to change that is dramatic or even life changing.

So yes, cut out the waste, but also add things that are of benefit to you and of help to you while you're making way.

Rob Luna - Wealth Strategist on the Recession and Inflation | SRS #042 01/06/2023

I listened to a Podcast the other day about investing and the economy. There were a number of things he said that I liked. Here are a few that I thought could be applied to any process or discipline, not just investing.

1. When you do a thing, it is good to understand what your goals are. There are no blanket "right" answers that apply to everyone. Understand YOUR context and YOUR goals.
2. Once those are identified, strategy comes into play. What are the principles you are using to achieve those goals.
3. Don't just test your opinions. Diversify for many possible eventualities or the possibility that other opinions may be equally valid.
4. Markets/people/systems can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent.
5. Fear is a powerful emotion. However resist the temptation to allow it to motivate or cripple you. Stay focused on what is actionable first.

Jim Wendler | 1000 LBS SQUAT, H.S. Strength Coach, 5/3/1, Table Talk #154 12/18/2022

I came across this the other day. It's a high school strength and condition coach talking about developing the football team. I'll paraphrase a few points that I think apply to any type of practice.

1. It's not about finding the "correct" program. It's about developing an ability to know how you are responding to a program and learning to eventually program for yourself.
2. The advanced person is advanced at doing the basics.
3. To improve, train easier than you think. Set yourself up for the long haul. Give yourself a chance to develop.
4. Don't try to find your Max too soon or too often. Stay in the heart of your own growth. You should be surprised by your peaks and not too quick to find what you can't do.

Keep training everyone!
