Okay Seattle fitness peeps. We've *almost* filled the impossibly big shoes left empty by Jen moving to Chicago. But we've got one shift left open. And we've got 'til Mid June to fill it, so we've got time to find the right fit and make sure you're all tucked in nicely and ready to go.
Friday mornings are still open. That's a 5 class shift, with 3 different kinds of classes.
You've got:
* 3 sessions of our classic FUNfit, which is a Functional Fitness group class. You know, lil' of this, lil' of that....
* 1 session of FUNrox, which is designed as training for Hyrox races. Simple and very popular.
* 1 session of Flex, which is all weight, (almost) no cardio. A classic bodybuilding pump sesh.
In addition to great pay, you also get free membership (obviously) and the ability to use the gym for your own personal training clients. And, of course, the best fitness community out there.
As a gym, we are deeply committed to inclusivity in all ways. Joy is our primary guiding principle.

Well, Jen's moving. We're still in denial, but our coaching calendar isn't. We have two shifts that we need to fill, and we're looking for the perfect person to be part of our team.
There are more details on the "Join Our Team" page of our Website, but the short and dirty of it is:
* Wednesday afternoon & Friday morning. Either or both.
* Must have a valid group fitness coaching certification. Preferably able to coach the Olympic Lifts, as well as basic barbell, dumbbell, bodyweight fitness class stuff....
* Must be downright enthusiastic about fitness as an inclusive thing that involves bodies of all shapes and sizes, without pushing ideas about weight, size and gender.
* Experience preferred, references required.
Great pay and perks. Including the ability to do personal training, you set your rates and keep 70%.
More details on our Web site.
Send an email to us to apply. (admin - at - rocketcommunityfitness - dot - com) (FB and Instagram messaging are trash, full of bots, so totally NOT a dependable way to reach us.)
We'd like to have you up and running by May, so we're looking for someone now. (Unless we can convince Jen not to move, but we're not banking on that.)

This is just a "bat signal," really a "bean signal," for old-time Rocket peeps who had the pleasure of being coached by our perky little sadist, Jen.
After TWELVE years coaching at Rocket, many of them as Head Coach, Jen's moving to Chicago. We are in no way happy about this. But we are, of course, happy to have a party to celebrate her. So if you're an old-time Rocket (or Rocket adjacent) person who wants to come to her going away party on April 26, get in touch so we can email you the invite. We want you all here, but after 15 years and a software change, we don't know who and where you all are. DM Alyssa your email address, so we can add you to the invite!
It will feature Chicago style dogs, though we will not be punishing people who put ketchup on them. At least, not, like, bad punishment. Maybe a little mockery.
In other news, if you are a gym in Chicago and need a coach, ask us about one of the best. We're sad to lose her, but you could be about to get a dream of a coach, employee and friend.

New Year, New Classes!
Specifically, we've got some members and coaches who are into Hyrox races right now, so we're adding a class designed for them! Of course, with its trademark grind of strength intervals mixed with cardio intervals, it's a great class for anyone. No fancy technique necessary.
The new FUNrox class is part of our switch to new programming by the brilliant crew at Hard Work Pays Off. These folks are some of the best in the functional fitness world, and we're thrilled to start January off by switching it up and bringing their programming to Rocket.
We still have all the classes that people love:
FUNfit - a classic 1-hour Functional Fitness class
FLEX - a bodybuilding style pump session
Oly - all Olympic Weightlifting with a former National Champion running the show
Kettlebell Fitness - those diabolical little balls are a sweaty full body workout
Kettlebell Sport - for the KB competitors out there, specific skill work
Yoga - it's yoga, bendy, stretchy goodness
And loads of great programming for members to do on their own time. Whether you are using the free 24/7 access at Rocket, or need something to do at home or in a hotel, we have several different programming tracks to do on your own. No classes for them, but programming for any time, anywhere.
While we believe that our coaching and our community are what make us awesome, we know that life gets in the way sometimes, so we've got extra programming for you, whether you can make it in to class or not.
So, although we don't believe in the whole "New Year, New You" thing, we're pretty psyched about these additions to our calendar.
If you want to add these to your life too, let us know. We'd love to find a class for you to try out, and get you in for a Blast Off session....
Cuz no matter what you're into, having fun while building strength and making friends is a pretty awesome way to welcome in any new day. Or year.

More Weightlifting! What can we say, we love it! This one is a fundraiser for a friend who is going to the World Championships and very possibly headed to the Olympics. It's taught by her coach, Kevin Simons of Alpha Barbell, who is one of our favorite people and has been coaching our Oly coach for almost a decade. He's coached National and International champions, and is absolutely one of the best coaches in the country.
So..... with that preamble..... If you want to spend 3 hours working on your Sn**ch and Clean & Jerk - or even just learning them from scratch - this is a great opportunity to learn from one of the best, and support a local young woman on her run to the biggest International stages.
Register directly through Kevin, but we'll welcome you with open arms at Rocket!

Okay, Seattle..... School starts tomorrow. That means you can drop the kids off and head straight to Rocket for a morning class. It's more like recess than school, running, jumping and playing with friends, but that fits with the whole "back to school vibe," right?
Or maybe a noon class works better for you? You can do that too. Or after school, even. We have all sorts of classes, all day long. As well as 24/7 access if your schedule is still bananas, but you know you want to work out a little.
We've seen this every year for 14 years now. Summer slows down because kids are out of school leaving parents scrambling, then school starts and the gym gets full again.
So to encourage you, we'll give you a sweet deal. September will be 50% off, to get you out the door and into the gym too.
And no, of course, this isn't just for parents. September still feels like the start of something new for all of us.
If you have previous experience with barbells, you can hop right in. If not, you may still need a single private session that you can do alone, or with friends. (Like recess!)
Just email us, or message us here, and we'll get you all set up!

We've been doing our sweaty thing in the best neighborhood in the city for 14 years now! So ya, you bet we're gonna throw down for the Hillman City Block Party!
We'll be having FREE parking lot classes all morning, open to one and all. No experience required, you just need to save a space by registering online.
We're extra excited about the Barbell Basics class, which is basically our Blast Off, FOR FREE. Including 2 weeks free-trial membership after you take the class. It's designed for people who have no barbell experience, which is needed to join. So we're giving it to you, literally, along with 2 weeks to check out the gym for free.
You can sign up for any of these classes at this link! (Limited spots in all classes so that you get the great coaching we're so proud of!) https://go.streamfit.com/embed/memberships/377/12615
Thanks to for organizing this fun party.

Wanna be a Rocket coach, but can't because of kids, or jobs, or...... Howsabout just 3 days a week, from 12:00- 1:00?
Have we got a gig for you!
Our noon "Flex!" class is one of our most popular classes. No cardio, all classic bodybuilding, pump-sesh. People LOVE this class.
It's a jam-packed hour of pumping iron, that's it. (Okay, sometimes we do a quick sweaty thing on a bike or something.)
We provide the programming, works in 6-week strength building cycles.
So it's easy to coach, and it's own sweet little cult.
BUT, if you're a Rocket coach, you get free membership, and can use Rocket to train your personal clients, so that's a pretty sweet deal.
Our DREAM would be someone who is capable of also coaching our regular Functional Fitness classes, which include cardio and Olympic lifting. That way you can sub in and get to be an even bigger part of our community. But our immediate need is to get this noon class covered before our beloved Flex coach heads back to school in September.

We are always looking for great coaches who share our mission of creating a more inclusive and diverse fitness community. We're an ever-evolving work-in-progress. We're hosting a USAW Level 1 at Rocket, cuz y'all know how we feel about Oly.
Oh, if you don't know, we think it's the perfect expression of power, grace and strength. We think it uses every muscle in your body in perfect balance, in a way that is pretty much poetry in motion when it works. And that training for it prepares you for just about anything.
We think that if you're going to learn, or coach, Olympic Lifting, thenUSA Weightlifting is who you should be learning from, because they're the gold standard.
And, well, we think our friend Joe Beck, from is one of the best. Whip smart, heart of gold, an inclusive soul that jibes with our vibe. (And if we fill it, you get our own Coach Celia as an assistant for the class!)
So whether you want to be certified as a coach, or just dial in your own lifting because you want to understand it better, we hope to see you at Rocket on August 9 & 10.
(The 9th happens to be the neighborhood block party, so there will be food vendors and DJs and all sorts of fun to be had when you're done, including a beer garden in our parking lot!)

Yup, and amen! That's why we tell you to bring the weight down under control, why we spend so much time on warm-ups and accessories. Why, on the random days when I'm coaching, you can usually here me say, at least once during the warm-up, "if I were the boss of you I'd tell you to do this several times a day, every day."
Load is fun, and gives you bragging rights. But reps and eccentric movement keep you safer, and more independent, for longer as you age. Don't ignore the "boring" stuff that you can't see in the mirror.

Focusing on eccentric exercises — where muscles extend rather than contract — builds more strength and muscle while also buttressing your tendons.
