Happy Thursday everyone! Please come join in my Zoom Powergirldance/Zumba Class tomorrow from 3:30-4:15. My capacity is at 100 people so log on a few minutes early to get in (and mute your mics right at 3:30) Can't wait to see all of you!!
Powergirldance on Capitol Hill isn’t like other dance classes. Students don’t wear tutus or compete for roles. There are no steps to memorize or strict rules to follow. Girls show up to move their bodies and be wholly themselves in a judgment-free space. Each class begins with a discussion of girls and women’s issues, including gender equality, beauty standards, and social justice.

Our mission is to arm girls with the physical and mental strength using dance and conversation. Powergirldance aims to provide joy and awareness.

Operating as usual

Good job, Darnella! When she saw injustice, she filmed it, and made history in the process.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg becomes first woman to lie in state: 8 other strides she made for women

usatoday.com As Ginsburg becomes first woman to lie in state, here are 8 other strides she made for women.

Mindy Kaling

“The most disrespected person in America is the black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the black woman. The most neglected person in America is the black woman.” Said Malcolm X in 1962. There’s still so much work to be done. Breonna deserves justice. Please vote this November. #justiceforbreonna

Honoring RBG with action is paramount. Here are some easy things you can do to involve your daughters:
1.) Write letters to voters in swing states here: https://votefwd.org/

2. Thank you to teacher Darrah Blanton for posting this one. A law was passed on 9/11 in Florida that former felons cannot vote until they pay off all court fines. Your donation goes directly to paying off fines: https://connect.clickandpledge.com/Organization/frcceducationfund/Campaign/amendment4fund/Fundraiser/DarrahBlanton/?fbclid=IwAR1fnjQgSBP2AM2CxpANT5Z1l9vShpYDCkLgBM7SCyDl9FkHeHFNjKc0e0Q

3. Write postcards to people in Georgia that are not aware of their voter rights. Your daughters can host a Zoom postcard writing party with their friends over Zoom: https://ethical.nyc/reclaimourvote/https://ethical.nyc/reclaimourvote/https://ethical.nyc/reclaimourvote/https://ethical.nyc/reclaimourvote/

Today is a dark day but one that will propel us into action because that’s what RBG would want us to do. Let’s vote like our lives depend on it (they do) and fight for justice and equality as we mourn this extraordinary woman and her amazing fortitude that paved the way towards gender equality. #notoriousrbg #powergirldance #ourhero #rbg

Happy Women's Equality Day! Today, Central Park unveiled the statues of the pioneers of the women's suffrage movement. Sojourner Truth, Susan B. Anthony, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton worked side by side to win the vote for women. And 100 years ago last week, Tennessee became the last state needed to ratify the 19th Amendment to the Constitution. It was the culmination of a decades-long struggle.
Though the passage of the 19th Amendment was an important victory, it was also an incomplete one. It would take decades longer to guarantee the franchise for women of color, especially Black and Native women.
A century later, the work continues. We’re still fighting so that every eligible American can cast their ballot and know their vote will be counted regardless of race, age, or geography.
It's a battle worth fighting, and one we have to win.
As Sojourner, Susan, and Elizabeth understood, our democracy belongs to all of us. And we've got to do everything we can to protect it not just for ourselves, but for the generations that follow us. Susan B. Anthony's famous decree has never felt more apt: “Failure is impossible!” #WomensEqualityDay

100 years ago today, suffragists won their decades-long fight for the right to vote.

While we celebrate today, we cannot forget the Black, Brown and Indigenous women, essential to this victory, yet denied the same rights for decades after the #19thAmendment was ratified.

Yoho's foul mouthed Ocasio-Cortez she responds to Rep. Ted Yoho's apology

A speech to share with your daughters and sons about the dismissiveness and abusive language that women endure. Whether you are a waitress, a Congress woman, a Presidential candidate, a wife, a mother or daughter nobody deserves to be treated this way. Sexism permeates everywhere and it is time for it to STOP.
