At Saturday’s UW Taikai, Emi Ichimura won the Women’s Open Division. Yay! Congratulations, Emi! 🎉

The event was smoothly run, the lunch was delicious, and it was a very enjoyable tournament. Thank you to everyone at the Kendo Club at the University of Washington for hosting such a great event!

Big congratulations!
Today was a special day—two girls made their bogu debut.
Learning how to put everything on is already a lot of work.
Step by step, we’ll build up bogu time and keep moving forward together.

Last Saturday was the HBSK Kendo Tournament with our three sister dojos—Highline, Bellevue, Sno-King, and Kirkland. Always Top Gun–themed and always a blast.
Huge thanks to Tero Patana for organizing everything and taking great photos!

New quarter, great energy at Sno-King Kendo Club!

We kicked off the new quarter last week and welcomed 10 new beginners—plus 5 returning students who leveled up and earned their kendogi!
The dojo is buzzing. Let’s keep it going! 💪⚔️

Three things that 99% of people who are bad at Gyaku-dō do:
1. They wind up too much
(Keep the motion small and compact—imagine drawing a triangle.)
2. They try to pull through using only their arms
(Open your body to the left and pull through with your whole body.)
3. They don’t understand Zanshin
(Maintain zanshin while pulling back, or keep zanshin forward).
Happy Keiko, everyone!
