Congratulations to ultrarunning legend Ann Trason, for another legendary performance.

Her original goal coming into the Across the Years multi-event race was to walk 50k. An impressive feat given Ann has Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), a condition that prevents her from running as she did during her competitive career. Prior to this event, Ann had not competed in a race in six years.

Aided by her purple walker, but powered by her trademark courage, toughness and perseverance, Ann reset her goal and decided to chase another buckle in the 100 mile race!

This one will be a sweet addition to her collection.

Ann Trason is widely considered one of the greatest ultrarunners in history. Her career, which spanned the 1980s through the early 2000s, is defined by her dominance at the 100-mile distance and her ability to compete with the top men in the field.

🏃‍♀️ She won Western States 14 times.

🏃‍♀️She set the Leadville Trail 100 Course Record in 1994 in 18:06:24. This legendary record stood for 31 years until it was finally broken by Ann Flowers in August 2025.

🏃‍♀️She set 20 World Records across a wide range of distances and fixed time events.

🏃‍♀️She qualified for the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials three times, with a personal best marathon time of 2:39.

We are beyond inspired. Ann was one of the first to push the physical boundaries. And she continues to do so, further cementing her legacy!!

Desert Solstice 2025
A photo, a chart and a table.

Washington’s Piotr Chadovich came into Desert Solstice Invitational Track Meet - 100 Miles & 24 Hours with something to prove. Having just missed qualifying for the 2025 USA National Team by one half a mile at D3 last spring, he was back on the track.

After a fast start in the first four hours, he settled in and ran a smart race - and a nice little cloing push in the last 1.5 hours.

Chadovich finished with 155.77 miles, besting his previous (and only) 24 hour mark of 151.58 by ~4 miles.

He is #2 on the qualifying list for 2027 only behind Matt Urbanski’s 159 at this year’s World Championship in Albi, France.

Can 155 hold up??

Desert Solstice 2025

Congratulations to Piotr Chadovich, wnning Desert Solstice with a 155.6 mile Personal Best and solid qualifier for the 2027 National Team.

This was Piotr's 2nd 24 Hour. His first was at D3, where he missed making the team by half a mile (first alternate). He also won Big Dog’s Backyard Ultra Run Group in 2022 with 76 yards.

Pete Kostelnick was leading through 14 hours, but retired from the race after an impressive 100 miles in 14:47:04.

Unfortunate news from - International Association of Ultrarunners:

The 2025 IAU 50 km World Championships, originally scheduled for December 7, 2025, in New Delhi, India, has been postponed.

In the official statement, it says a new date for the Championships will be communicated within the week.

Here’s hoping we can add a newly rescheduled 50k WC among the long list of things to be thankful for in the coming week!!

https://iau-ultramarathon.org/postponement-of-the-2025-iau-50-km-world-championships-in-new-delhi.html

The announcement cites, “On November 20th, the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi published directions regarding sports events scheduled for November and December, mandating that these events be postponed to later months. This directive must be strictly complied with.”

“This decision was reached after extensive discussions with the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), in compliance with the recent government directive. While we recognize the significant effort and preparation invested by athletes, coaches, and federations, the health and safety of all participants must remain our highest priority.

Well “Albi” damned, there was a lot of excitement this past weekend at the 24 Hour World Championships!! Most notably, the top 3 women all surpassed the previous world record, with Sarah Webster of GBR claiming the win and new WR. Those big numbers propelled those three teams (GBR, AUS, JPN) to the podium spots. Great Britain destroyed the previous team world best with their big numbers (previous USA 2019, Herron, Smith, Dauwalter). The U.S. women battled fiercely and at one point were tied for 3rd with Japan, but the consistency of former WR holder Miho Nakata at the end allowed them to pull ahead. Marisa Lizak, led the U.S. women with a 7th place finish and 153.6M, setting a new AG American record, previously held by team manager Pam Smith . Last minute addition Stella Springer came up big with a 5M PR for 14th place, followed closely by Janelle Robyn Stark in 15th Of note, the third scorer for team USA placed ahead of the third scorer for all three podium countries highlighting the depth of the U.S. team, which ultimately got 4th out of 29 complete teams All three scoring women claimed World Masters age group medals.

The U.S. men finished 14th of 41 teams, led by Matt Urbanski in 19th place with 255.985km (159.06M) and followed by Chad Lasater in 42nd (239.267km, 148.67). The heat took a big toll on the men with a lot of GI issues and muscle fatigue causing struggles throughout the day.

Lastly, a huge shoutout to Kaylee Frederick, who as an alternate, ran to a 12th place finish in the world at just 20 years old, showing that the future for Team USA is still strong!!

10/19/2025

The women's world record for the farthest distance run in a 24-hour race is 270.363 km (167.995 miles), set by Japan's Miho Nakata on December 1, 2023, at the IAU 24-Hour World Championships in Taipei, Taiwan.

That record is under threat over the next 2.5 hours by UK’s Sarah Webster. Holly Ranson and Miho Nakata are also still in the mix.

(See video of Webster in comments)

🇺🇸 Coaches and crews working overtime to keep our runners moving.
And it’s working.

From foot care, to overseeing nutrition and hydration, to coordinating timing and position updates, Pam Proffitt Smith, Bob Hearn and Nicole Yedlinsky have been busy.

10 hours remain in the race.

The USA men are 15th. Urbanski, Traer, and Lasater are the current scorng team members.

Th USA women have made a major move up the Leaderboard. They have moved up the leaderboard from to 3rd from ~9th.

Daniel Westergren put this tracking together. Bad Mike and I agree - this is one of the best we have seen!! Check it out!!

Let’s not forget the crew! They are working hard, too, keeping our athletes fueled, hydrated, and cool. Team USA is thankful to have so many great people here in France to help our runners get through the day (and night)!

6+ hours in and USA is cruising along. It’s heating up - now registering at 73 F with full sun- and our athletes are focusing on staying cool. This is a bit challenging because ice is only available in small quantities, even at stores (if the stores even carry it) and ride share has been unreliable Sunset is at 7:02 and should bring relief from the heat.
