Happy New Year! Thank you to everyone who made 2024 a great experience in Filipino Martial Arts. Among the highlights: sparring to prepare for the San Diego FMA Open, double stick fundamentals, and experiments in applications from Kalis Ilustrisimo and beyond.

It's the last few days of Filipino American History Month!

Our area's first Filipino American family arrived in 1909, when Rufina Clemente Jenkins, a native of Bicol, relocated with her husband Francis Jenkins, an African American who served in the US Army. The family established a home right here in Ballard, and their legacy continues here today after seven generations.

This post from the Filipino American National Historic Society's Seattle Chapter includes some of their stories. Hope you enjoy it!

On some days, the bluest skies really are in Seattle! This was last month after a bit of sword work.

The best of times, but much more to come. Please pass along a message if you're interested in joining us. We are a Filipino Martial Arts training group of no affiliation and with no politics.

The Leif Erikson statue behind us was designed by UW professor August Werner and was completed in 1962. Replicas of it are now standing in Norway, Greenland, and Newfoundland.
