Repost: .tech Dr. Tiara Moore has created a community for Black marine scientists.

Dr. Tiara Moore, inspired by her own challenges in academia and a desire to create a safe space for Black marine scientists, founded the nonprofit Black in Marine Science (BIMS) in 2020. Questions that need answers: Why is there a national lifeguard shortage if there is no shortage of the people who are being impacted by drownings?

Are you going to sit back and watch after after and not take a stand to protect yourself and the people you love? Drowning is 100 percent preventable! We can learn to love the water and respect the water at the same time.

My girl is doing the Lords work down in Eatonville, FL. Not only does this dope Black Girl own her own business making floats for the culture, she went and got her lifeguard certification because she wanted to make sure that the pool in her city would always have someone to guard.

So now itโ€™s time to answer The Call ๐Ÿ“ž

If you:
-live in, near, or around WA
- have swimming skills
-want to learn a life-saving skill and earn $500 at the same time
-can complete the swimming pretest
-can join me and as we begin the first cohort of an initiative to certify 100 Black Lifeguards in our city so we can all be safer in the water and reopen our pools and beaches.

Itโ€™s too hot to not be outside! ๐Ÿ˜‚( I sound like a grumpy Memaw yelling at the kids for letting my A/C out ๐Ÿ˜‚)

Training begins tomorrow! โœŠ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ›Ÿ

Fact: According to the recent CDC report, Only 28% of Hispanic people and 37% of Black people have taken swimming lessons.

Iโ€™m thrilled and honored to announce that Iโ€™ve been appointed as Team USAโ€™s first black diving coach here at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar! ๐ŸŽ‰ This is not just a personal milestone for me, but a significant moment in the world of sports and representation. As we kick off Black History Month, Iโ€™m reminded of the incredible journey of those before me, their sacrifices, their roles and their impact on me.

Growing up, my brilliant mother would make me write essays about African American trailblazers and leaders over the summers. It taught me about what my ancestors and those before went through in order for me to have the opportunities that I have had. I hoped that I can do the same for future generations to come.

I am so grateful to all of you who have had my back, from my family, friends, mentors, etc.. Your encouragement, belief, and unwavering support have fueled my passion and determination to break barriers and attempt to make a difference in the world of US diving.

This is about more than just coaching; itโ€™s about representation and breaking barriers for future generations of African Americans in aquatic sports. By being visible, I aspire to inspire athletes who may have never seen someone who looks like them be successful in this exhilarating sport.

Representation does matter. Itโ€™s important for young people to see individuals who look like them succeeding in all fields, including sports. By diversifying coaching staff and leadership roles, we can create more spaces where everyone feels empowered to pursue their dreams.

I am committed to using this platform to continue to uplift and empower underrepresented voices in the diving community and beyond. Together, letโ€™s continue to make strides in sports and beyond.

Big thanks to for your incredible support, mentorship and this opportunity. I cannot wait to make more history with Team USA! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Competition day is tomorrow! I cannot wait to show the world what the USA can do! Best believe we are bringing the Texas HEAT!!!๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ
