Episode 114 - 2021 College football week 3 recap 09/20/2021

https://youtu.be/1C9IAByT290
What do we do? We talk sports. It's as simple as that.

What a weekend for college football. The "whiteout" game lived up to the hype with over a hundred thousand fans in attendance. Penn State and their beleaguered quarterback put on a great performance as Sean Clifford hand his best night as a Nittany lion as they go on to defeat the Auburn Tigers. The party might have gone on long into the night but concerned fans might have to worry about their coach James Franklin being looked at by other teams. A rough day/night for the SEC officials. Do we ignore it? Of course not. We have plenty to say.

The Big Ten has 6 teams that are undefeated. The conference as played great and look no further than Mel Tucker’s Spartans. It’s been an incredible turnaround. We discuss the coach, players, and the impact that the transfer portal has had not only one the Spartans, but inevitably the entire sport of college football. What’s better than jello shots? Coach Dori having jello shots. As her Huskies finally get their first win this season. Every week we have our Positive Player Spotlight and this week it’s the beautiful story of Anthony Washington and his commitment to his community and his need to become a special education teacher.

It's fun show with our coaches and we really hope you enjoy it.

The Roland-Garros (French Open) is one of the major Grand Slam titles that every tennis player covets. This year Novak Djokovic has added his 2nd French Open title, and 19th Grand Slam title overall, putting him one win away from tying Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. We felt that this was a perfect time to discuss common tennis injuries that players at all levels incur.

Tennis is a high-level sport that puts a tremendous demand on our bodies and sometimes that demand can have lasting effects. Playing tennis requires explosive bursts of energy, using different types of playing surfaces, and constant perpetual motion. Our bodies are affected from head to toe: shoulder, elbow, back, knee, ankle, foot, wrist. We discuss these injuries, what they feel like, and when we should go see someone. The differences from soreness and needing a day off, or whether it’s time to talk to someone before an injury can get worse.

We’ve seen the toll these injuries have had on our favorite players. We want to make sure that athletes at ALL levels are aware of these types of injuries, how to recognize them and when you should go see your doctor.

Dr. Garcia was an assistant team physician for the Chicago Bulls and Chicago White Sox. During residency, he also cared for players on the New York Giants, New York Mets, US Tennis Team, New York Rangers, New York Knicks, and Brooklyn Nets, as well as many collegiate athletes, has authored over 70 publications in prominent peer-review journals including the American Journal of Sports Medicine, the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, and the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. He has presented more than 60 academic sports papers worldwide, in addition to authoring book chapters on advanced techniques in Sports Medicine. He currently serves as an Assistant Editor for Current Reviews in Musculoskeletal Medicine and is a reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and the American Journal of Sports Medicine.

‎NYSEA Radio: Episode 107: Dr. Grant Garcia explains the benefits of Internal Bracing and how it’s revolutionized the healing process in Orthopedic surgeries. on Apple Podcasts 05/23/2021

Listen: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/nysea-radio/id1455306309?i=1000522576968

The PGA Championship winner will be crowned and as Koepka and Mickelson go for the win we look at and discuss the amazing Internal Brace technology that has allowed Koepka to compete at the highest level so fast after dislocating his kneecap.

The Internal Brace has been a huge leap forward in treatment for the way patients recover from surgeries and how it allows them to get back to normal activities in a fraction of the time it used to take from conventional surgeries. This technology has been applied to some of the greatest athletes in the world, such as Drew Brees and others. A recent example is the dislocated kneecap that Brooks Koepka suffered right before the 2021 Masters tournament. The 4-time major champion and former #1 golfer in the world had put in place an Internal Brace, and a week later was hitting and walking on the golf course able to compete at the Masters just 3 weeks after surgery. This technology is not only available to the best athletes in the world, but it’s also available to you.
Dr. Garcia discusses at length what Internal Bracing is and how it is applied to injuries. We discuss how it works for acute and chronic ligament injuries, instabilities, benefits of using it when it comes to knee, shoulder, ankle, and thumb injuries. He shares what information and options you should be discussing with your doctor when it comes to this procedure, and the importance of having a doctor that knows how to apply an Internal Brace. Is Internal Bracing permanent? Is it safe for MRIs? Who’s more likely to get an Internal Brace? What are the cost differences if any? We get to these questions and much more.
It’s a great topic and a game changer to your recovery. Reach out to your doctor and others, to see if this procedure is something that can benefit you.

‎NYSEA Radio: Episode 106 - Scott Griggs: Athletic Director at Franklin H.S., Seattle, WA on Apple Podcasts 03/31/2021

New podcast: https://apple.co/3rFh9jh

Franklin High School has a rich history in the emerald city of Seattle. Great alumni such as Dr. Bill Hutchinson, who founded Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center named after his brother Fred, a former MLB player and coach. Grammy award-winning Jazz musician Kenny G. Sports icons such as MLB hall of farmer Ron Santo, Mario Bailey, Corey Dillon, Terry Metcalf, and so many others. There's a rich history of greatness at Franklin High School. The greatness that Athletic Director Scott Griggs is constantly reminded of as he walks the halls and sees the banners on the walls or the alumni bricks laying on the floors. He embraces this history as he helps lay down his own foundation for future generations.
Scott discusses his midwest upbringings and how they led him to Seattle, the diversity of his school as roughly 92% of his student enrollment are minorities, or as I like to say majorities, and the importance of open dialogue with students in today's climate. The foundation that is being laid now by his new football coach Terry Green and a promise of stability at that position that seems to have had a revolving door for the past decade. The importance of diversity and community is at the forefront of our discussion. A great example of that is his basketball coach and more importantly good friend Craig Jackson. Craig has been named Director of Diversity to WIBCA (Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association) a position that will give him a chance to help guide Washington state basketball programs to support student-athletes' constantly changing challenges.
Franklin High School, a school with a long storied history. For Scott, he's looking to write his own chapter in this illustrious story.

Colby Davies: Head Football Coach at Steilacoom H.S., Steilacoom, WA 03/20/2021

Colby Davies: Head Football Coach at Steilacoom H.S., Steilacoom, WA

Ahead of their big weekend matchup TODAY against Tumwater H.S., Coach Davies takes some time to talk about the positives of having a football season and the importance of his seniors having another opportunity to play with their teammates.

The last time Steilacoom played Tumwater was in the Class 2A state championship game in which the sentinels lost 48-34. Even though there won’t be any High School football playoffs this season, this is the game that Steilacoom has circled on their schedule. For those seniors, this will be their last opportunity for these talented players to ground those Thunderbirds. One major piece missing will be wide receiver Emeka Egbuka. Emeka has enrolled early at Ohio State and the five-star recruit won’t be on the field to scare opposing players and coaches. In his place, Logan Brady, Tre Horner, and DJ Fryar will look to score early and often running a high-powered offense behind quarterback Chance McDonald. Chance was ranked #2 in passing yards, and touchdowns in the state of Washington in 2019, and has come in firing on all cylinders in this abbreviated spring football season.

A season that few expected to have, JV and freshman teams decimated by turnouts and pandemic ramifications, yet a team that Coach Davies is proud of. What’s a successful season? Any season that can be played.
