Help Dance Underground survive Coronavirus crisis

Dear Dancers,

With the statewide mandatory shutdown on recreational spaces and enforced social distancing, Dance Underground cannot operate our normal programing. Currently, we have some live streaming at the studio from our dear teachers to keep social connection. With no income from our regular programming, Dance Underground is in desperate financial need to retain our tenancy through this pandemic.

Ilana and I met 25 years ago on the Seattle dance floor and have been together ever since. Not only have we formed a partnership in life and Argentine Tango, we have also formed a partnership to operate Dance Underground. For the past 20 years, we have poured all our heart and energy into promoting the growth of the dance, fitness, and art communities of Seattle.

Our mission for Dance Underground is to provide a warm, friendly atmosphere in an elegant setting, that facilitates optimum instruction and learning. We promote talented instructors who are recognized for their teaching excellence and their dedication to inspire their students to grow and express themselves creatively. Our programs range from kid‘s ballet classes, adult dance and fitness classes, to social dances. We pride ourselves on our diverse programs where communities of all ages and different art forms can feel at home in our studio.

We have created a GoFundMe account to raise $25,000 to help pay a portion of the rent and utility bills for April, May and June.

We ask for your help and encourage you to contribute anything you can. We understand this is a difficult time for many people. Dear Dancers,

We want to let you know that we have decided to put a temporarily hold on all weekly tango classes, practica and the Saturday night milonga at the Dance Underground. We want to follow governor Inslee's guideline on social gathering and social distancing.

We will continue to monitor the situation and inform you immediately when we resume all classes and the Saturday night milonga.

For dancers who are signed up for the class series, we will add make up classes when we resume.

Thank you for your understanding and support. We wish you continue to remain healthy during this unprecedented time.

Dear Dancers,

We want to let you know that we will continue running the weekly classes and the Saturday night milonga at the Dance Underground.

In addition to individual preventative effort, here are extra steps we are taking for the classes and dance:
• Extra cleaning and wiping down surfaces with disinfectant.
• Milonga- We will not use table cloth for a while to help create a more easily cleaned space.
• Milonga snack- We will provide individually wrapped snacks as an option.
• Posted hand washing signs " Everyone wash hands before and after events" and provide hand sanitizer.
• As always, we respect your decision to stay with one partner and not rotating.
• If you sign up for the class series- In an event that we need to cancel the classes, we will add make up classes.
• We offer private lessons for dancers that want to limit their exposure from a group class setting.
Please stay home if you are not feeling well or if you are a member of high risk group. Take precautions outlined by all health agencies.

We will continue to monitor the state and county health department and the CDC for updates and inform you immediately if we need to cancel any events.

Tango Snow Update
We will hold our classes and dance this week as planned. Please attend if it is safe for you to travel. In any case if you cannot make it to the class due to snow, we want to assure you that you will be able to keep up with the class material when you join us next week either via review or added classes.

Snow Policy
We will hold our weekly tango class and Saturday night dance for light to moderate snow condition. In the event of heavy snow, please check www.seattletango.com for updated information. We will also update the information on our voice mail at 206-781-9553. If a class gets cancelled or if the majority of the students couldn’t show up due to dangerous driving condition (safety first), we will add a makeup class at the end of the class series.
