Here is my collection of Sedona flowers Iโ€™ve captured over a few years. Someone asked if I had a picture of the prickly pear, and I realized that I did not, so I wanted to get oneโ€ฆbut last year they didnโ€™t have a great bloom, so I took what I could get. It kinda reminds me of a desert version of Charlie Brownโ€™s Christmas tree ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ข

Wow!!! Temps are 30 degrees above average this week!!!

I guess summer is going to start in March this year. Just a few tips that can make the difference between an amazing tripโ€ฆ and a really hot one ๐Ÿฅต

-Start early
The best time to hike or explore is sunrise to ~10 AM. Itโ€™s cooler, quieter, and the lighting on the red rocks is incredible.

- Bring more water than you think + some salty snacks/electrolytes.
Sedona is dry, and the heat sneaks up fast.

- Avoid midday hikes
Temps in the 90s with limited shade can be rough. Midday is better for relaxing, scenic drives, or poolside cocktails.

- Plan for parking
Popular trailheads fill early. Have a backup plan or consider alternatives.
Protip: never worry about limited parking with an ebike ๐Ÿ˜‰

- Cool spots
Oak Creek and shaded areas can make a big difference during the hottest part of the day.

Sedona is absolutely incredible this time of year โ€” you just have to time it right.

Anyone have favorite trails for 90+ degree days?

While visiting Sedona, you may notice we have a few roundabouts. Of the 3 million visitors each year to Sedona, some have limited experience with roundabouts.

They actually work really well, if everyone follows one simple rule:

โžก๏ธ Yield to traffic already in the roundabout.

Quick tips:
โ€ข Slow down as you approach
โ€ข Enter when thereโ€™s a safe gap
โ€ข Once you're in, keep moving
โ€ข Signal when you exit

Stopping inside the roundabout to let someone in might feel polite, but it actually confuses everyone and slows traffic.

For cyclists:
Confident riders who are moving at the same speed as vehicle traffic can ride through like a vehicle. Stay in the middle of the lane as to not temp vehicles to try passing in the roundabout.

For less confident riders, or when not able to keep up with the flow of traffic (e.g. when entering a roundabout while peddling uphill) use the pedestrian crosswalks. Before entering most roundabouts, there will be an exit ramp from the bike lane> to the sidewalk or shared use pathway. Use the crosswalk, then, once past the roundabout, there will usually be an entrance ramp> back onto the bike lane.

Once you get the hang of them, roundabouts are actually pretty easy.

Welcome to Sedona and enjoy the red rocks! ๐ŸŒ„

Locals- have you seen any interesting roundabout maneuvers recently?

Trailwork on Hangover Trail today. We enjoy maintaining trails here in Sedona, although our bikes are not suitable or legal on trails. However, trailhead parking is free, and thereโ€™s always an open spot for e-bikes.

SHARED USE-PATHWAYS POLICY

We hope you are using and loving all the shared-use pathways (SUP) in Sedona! Throughout the next several years, you'll see more SUP emerge to increase pedestrian safety and walkability.

Our SUPs are a city-wide network of non-motorized pathways used by bicyclists, walkers, hikers, runners, etc. for both recreation and transportation. Since there is a variety of users sharing SUPs, here are some courtesy guidelines:

Wear a helmet
Be visible
Signal to others
Yield the right-of-way
Be careful in crosswalks
Headphones are hazards
Share the trail
Be careful in crosswalks
Control your pets
Respect private lands
Check your speed

"Check your speed" refers to those using manual or electric bikes. Bicyclists should slow when approaching and passing other SUP users. Travel at a speed appropriate for the conditions that allows you to be in control. If you are traveling at a speed of 20+ MPH, ride on the street or in the bike lane, not on SUPs.

Learn more about SUPs at www.sedonaaz.gov/your-government/departments-and-programs/public-works/st-ps/st-ps-courtesy.
