NASA's Johnson Space Center

50 years ago today, three men embarked on an unprecedented mission to land on the lunar surface. Their Saturn V rocket lifted off from NASA's Kennedy Space Center at 9:32 am ET as the world watched in wonder.
The journey to the Moon had begun.

Celebrate the Apollo 50th Anniversary | Kennedy Space Center

Apollo 11 50th Anniversary this Saturday!

kennedyspacecenter.com Celebrate and learn more about the 50th anniversary of the Apollo Program! Learn about upcoming events, commemorative giveaways, and all of the Apollo artifacts at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex!

I recently created custom shoot house shoot/no-shoot scenarios that featured our parking lot and building along with myself, Rudy, Renee and Kevin, with their permission.

Clients from the Thursday SCGC monthly virtual shoot AND other clients have used these scenarios since then and I wanted to share results and observations.

I had a picture of Renee I took of her shooting one of our laser pistols, so she could be the “good guy with a gun”, there to save the shop proprieters from the guy with a butcher knife. An very high percentage of people shooting this scenario for the first time ignored the knife (even when I yelled “knife”) and shot Renee, even though she was not pointing a gun at the audience. Sorry Renee! I did not expect that to happen!

So is society trained to automatically want to shoot the person holding a gun? What if WE are the one holding the gun to take down a bad guy? Just some questions to ponder.

Now, I appear armed in a scenario, but holstered. No one shot me. Rudy was not armed, no one shot him. Kevin was not armed AND wearing a warm smile, he was shot once.

It was all in fun using people we know, but there were also some serious lessons learned. These are also great points for discussion!

Maybe next time, those of you who did not join us last week, can join us next month.

Getting ready for the NASA event today! This will be the first time we will be using the simulator for Shuttle and rocket launches! The stories are one of a kind and priceless.

Joe Cool!

Astronaut Snoopy takes flight in this year’s Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing! This year also marks the 50th Anniversary of Snoopy’s first flight as an Astronaut in the 1969 Parade. #macysparade

Someone was looking for someone to “upholster” on another thread. For a brief moment, I thought they were talking about upgrading a holster, LOL!

What do YOU think? Which is the best photo of my trusty Z-28 on Tail of the Dragon? I want to get one of these samples blown up for the AK Virtual Arms Training shop. Vote for your favorite pic by making a comment about why you are picking that particular picture. Which one is firearms training academy worthy?

I did not, even for a fraction of a second, ever think of pulling my gun. I was all about camera, camera, camera!

What a rare privilage to be able to get some photos of this Foothills Parkway resident! Caution, I am a Steve Irwin fan!

It is definitely a rattlesnake, it told me so as I was encouraging it off the road so it would not get hit by a car. I think it was a timber rattler. As I approached, it behaved predictably, like my encounters with rattlesnakes in the southwest. It did not want to have anything to do with me. It was afraid of me. When I got too close, it started to coil and rattle, so I gave it some space and it continued its slow crawl off the road. Even then, I was always outside of the strike range, one snake length. I respected the snake, and the snake respected me.

I suspect it was enjoying warming up on the asphalt since it was still earlier in the day. Glad it made it to safety! It was probably living there for years without being bothered, before the Foothills Parkway was finished.

P.S. It was not near any of the big parking lots.

My best photo of this park resident will be going up on the wall in my shop AK Virtual Arms Training at 2662 Wears Valley Rd. Https://akvat.com

Why I do not like the word "Empowered"

It has always bothered me to see angry people, throwing their fists into the air, all in the name of “empowerment.” Men and women will experience some level of enlightenment when they take training and attend events at my shop, but I am not going to claim to “empower” you with something you already have.

I hope you enjoy my blog post today!

akvat.com I have thought long and hard how to write this post, and just when I thought about getting started, I stumbled upon a well written article by Dene Adams, another woman involved in firearms. My writing here will be brief...

We have to do this, no time right now though.

Classes will be held at the Blount County Justice Center, located at 940 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway in Maryville. The basic 12-hour class is open to ladies age 13 and up. FOP Bud Allison Memorial Lodge #9

JUNE 10, 2019

The F.O.P. Bud Allison Memorial Lodge #9 4th Annual 3 Gun Shoot was a success Saturday, June 8, with 40 registered shooters taking part in the day long event. The on and off rain did not deter participants and spectators from turning out to raise money for a great cause. Our lodge raised close to $2,000, with the proceeds benefiting our area law enforcement officers who are in need.

Winners of the event are as follows:
1st place: Dakota Ray
2nd place: Will Sanders
3rd place: Shawn Wiseman

A huge thanks to our participants, volunteers, and sponsors (Newbern Arms, Brackins Blues Club, T3 Concepts, Gunny's, Little River Range and Training, Craig's Firearms Supply, GMD, BCGO, and Southern Precision Tools) for making this year's event a success.Plans are already in the works for next year's event!

I got some awesome Stage One 3-Gun pictures of me this morning from Opie in the Smokies. I did zoom in on some to get a bigger picture of me. Thanks for some great pictures, Josh!

Hopefully, I can get the video of me on Stage two published in the next couple of days.

Ladies, Q-Baby jeans are the best jeans for keeping cool in the summer and for their extra deep front pockets that are deep enough for snubbie revolver pocket carry (with the proper pocket carry holster). They normally run around $60+-, Duncan’s by Publix in Pigeon Forge just got a truckload of irregulars and they are selling for $4.99 each!!! I have bought 3 pairs already, tried them on first, nothing looked obviously wrong to me!

Beware the white ones, they don’t have deep front pockets.

Saturday June 8th 2019, we will be opening to the public at 12:30pm.

I am using our professional grade firearms simulator to practice and prepare for my first 3-Gun Competition. I have already been using the recoil 1911 and AR-15 to practice our Steel Challenge courses of fire and pulled my scores up from last year between 15-20% from last year, before we got the simulator.

The difference is, I need to get used to my tactical vest which is needed to carry AR magazines, Pistol magazines and shotgun shells. The vest feels unfamiliar and cumbersome, but I will use the sim to work things out before the event.

I will add more information to this thread as I progress to Saturday, so check back! I am excited!

Can you tell which are the real guns and which are the military grade simulator training firearms?

Ask for a sim gun demo when you stop by to visit!

This class is full. We will host another one and post the dates on our page. Thank you.

Shotguns For Smaller People

Shotguns for Smaller People

Captains Blog Entry Star Date 06.01.2019

I am a woman, 5’4”, to put things into perspective. I have decided to try the 3-gun sport for which I need a shotgun. This is the story of my search, and challengers a smaller person looking for a shotgun in an industry that seems to make most shotguns to fit Paul Bunyan (mild exaggeration, but it feels that way from my diminutive vantage point).

Here is what I want, need and what I found:
