It always amazes me how smart Muscovy are. I know some animals you can sneak another egg in their nest and they wont know or care, or another chick or duckling of the same age. I have never had that experience with Muscovy.
I once put just one egg in a nest when the mom was away from it briefly. The next day, I checked on the nest and the mom had moved the entire nest and including all the eggs except the one that I put in there for her to sit on.
We recently hatched a duckling im the incubator at the same time a nest of muscovy hatched. We tried to sneak it in with the mom to take care of it and she ran it off. It looked identical to her ducklings.
This egg was pushed out of her nest because it wasn't developing.
I know other species do this, and maybe I am bias, but Muscovy are one if the most intelligent and independent birds we have. Truly amazing!
