Toxic Positivity: In Defense of Negative Emotions Toxic positivity is forced happiness. It’s the assumption that despite your difficulties and challenges you should be cheerful. But life is a package deal, it comes with both light and darkness and we need an array of emotions to accept and deal with both.

Another home practice in the same sports bra. 😬🤷♀️
I don’t know about you all but I’ve been see-sawing back and forth between sluggishness and mild depression/desperation to gratitude and even calm. Plus a whole bunch of other emotions. This post is only my third home practice since this all started. I’ve had internet streaming trouble and just “meh” feelings. I’ve been out walking (with adequate social distancing) which has been good for me BUT I just feel weird. Split. Confused. The therapist in me tells me to find a better word than “weird.“ But it IS weird. I am very concerned for the mental state of the country, the physical health of the country, and the economy. I am very concerned for my sisters and brothers who were living paycheck to paycheck and now don’t have a paycheck. If this had happened back when I was a server, I would’ve been entirely dependent on others. And I was lucky that I had others I COULD depend on. I recognize not everyone is that privileged. That said, it’s great to see so many Go Fund Me pages for people who are struggling right now. And other ways people are stepping up to help. It’s great that the air is cleaner and I can actually breathe it in being in Los Angeles. I can get to the store when I need to without the intense stress that comes from getting into my car every single time because the energy of the traffic out here is awful. Right now traffic is great. Part of me wants to go back to “normal,” although I don’t know that we ever can in the way that we think, and another part of me never wants to go back to how it used to be. We need to take better care of our earth, we need less traffic and therefore less stress, and we need more community and if this all wrapped up in a week (obviously we know it won’t), I fear none of the potential growth opportunities would pe*****te enough to make any kind of real change. And all that said, the actual tragedy of the virus itself and the pain and loss so many will endure is beyond heart-breaking. How can we deal with the now and marinate on better change in the future simultaneously? What do you guys think?
This was my practice yesterday. My first class on my free trial with #alomoves. I’ll be trying some other online classes as well, and of course dropping in to my very-favorite-currently-online places — @blackdogyoga and @forwardfoldyoga. 💜💖This class I took was by @dylanwerneryoga and called Advanced True Strength One or something. I wanted to kill him halfway through. 😂😂 Not really. If you go to his page, you will see why. His strength and control are ridiculous, impressive, and inspiring. Talk about dedication. He’s a great instructor but I did like 3-5 (okay, 3!) of the moves that were 10. I.e. I took lots of breaks. 😬🤗 But I was listening to my body, and that of course is the yoga. I’ve wanted to try advanced classes from different teachers for a really long time, and haven’t done it until now. Because, well, quarantine. I have also cleaned the crap out of my closet and given a bunch of stuff away to goodwill. I’ve gone on walks for the first time in FOREVER. I’m very lucky to be working in this time and able to actually focus on doing things I’ve been putting off with the time I’ve saved not being in traffic or running in and out of my house all day. I have to say, that part of this feels good. I hope whatever this strange journey we are all on together will bear some sort of fruit in the end. ✨
I’m hopping on the newsletter bandwagon to keep you guys up to date. Send me your email to be included! 🙏
LOVE this! The only way we learn and grow is through "mistakes" and "failures." Let it be messy! Repost and thanks to @lysarichdotcom

Sometimes we have to Allow, Surrender, Be -- and that brings the connection we seek. Other times we have to work hard to find it. The balance between effort and surrender depends spelt on the moment you're in and discerning which it is you need. ❤️
❤️ Loved this. ❤️ Repost from @greggmcbride
Funny meme, but semi-serious post. PEOPLE! Someone else is not going to make you whole. Seriously. We need to let go of the idea of the romantic fantasy of love. (Book Rec: WE by Robert A. Johnson). Can we be romantic within a relationship? Of course! But real love starts with true RELATING. Then we have to figure out how to SUSTAIN that relating in spite of our human tendencies to want to control or be in the Power Principle instead of the Love Principle. They are one another's opposites and only through integration of shadow into light (I.e. Doing your gd work! 🤗) will we evolve. I'll be 40 in August. I've been single for about 5 years (with a 3 month relationship last year where I spent most of my time ignoring my feelings that, ahem, just weren't there and listening to the voice that told me, "but he'sTRYING and he's nice and he likes you!" Luckily I did my work, transformed that voice thru developing a better relationship to IT, and let that s**t go!). Point is -- I have never been happier in my whole life than in these last five years because I KNOW WHO I AM. And while that's an ever-developing thing, I am not projecting my wholeness onto anyone else. The Work is SO worth it and life is so damn good. But only YOU can choose to do it. #faceyoursoul #koalaismyspiritanimal #ibelieveinyou
One of my favorite books for psychological healing of the Feminine aspect of an individual. -- Addiction to Perfection by Marion Woodman
"There is no coming to consciousness without pain." -- C.G. Jung As difficult as the inward journey has been, As close to the edge of sanity as I've come, for me, transformation has been worth it. Go easy on yourself as much as u can. It can be a tough ride, this Life.
Our reactions offer us so much insight to ourselves! We can only know ourselves through "the Other." Let yourself be changed daily. ❤️
Choose Kindness wherever possible.
Are they #challenges or are they #opportunities? Perhaps one and the same.

Heard this in my yoga class today: "You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great." -Zig Ziglar. I've been pretty good about showing up for my yoga practice, but there are other things I've struggled with starting out of fear. The Fear voice takes on many different disguises and wears many different hats. It is up to us to discern when we are being tricked or judged or shamed or dismissed or stifled and break free. It is about showing up for ourselves, starting in spite of the fear and just taking the next small step. #practiceandalliscoming

Only the eternal can know impermanence. We only know one thing through it's opposite. We might not always LIKE the opposite but for life to have any meaning, it must be known. I thought this quote was interesting food for thought, although I'm not sure what's happening with the kid in the background?? 🤔🤔🤗
Jung said there are 2 types of suffering: 1. Legitimate and 2. Illegitimate. Legitimate suffering is when we do it consciously and derive meaning from it. Illegitimate suffering is unconscious and of no creative or soul-growing use to us. Personally, I've gone into symbolic Hell both consciously and unconsciously. One going in consciously, I am able to bring back some gold from the depths. And that makes all the difference.
Wholeness comes from the ability to #integrate both sides. Splitting off something we don't like, dismissing it, suppressing it or trying to force it to be light is neurosis. Accept the opposites. Then transform.
My all-time favorite Jung quote.
I needed to see this today. I've been working hard on the development and manifestation of my goals, which is awesome. But always, always to try and remember to ENJOY YOUR PROCESS. Now. Deep breath in. Deep breath out. Well, hello there. :) I see you. Repost from @sigrid.matthews

Some call this yoga. Some call it ego. It's probably a bit of both. Do I think it's cool I can do this pose? Yeah. Is the pose what yoga is all about? No. I will say it took me a long-ass time to get here. "Here" is not the pose itself -- but what the pose SYMBOLIZES for me. The journey started with just showing up for level 1. I was dealing with a raging eating disorder and desperately seeking ANYTHING that could help. Yoga has been a part of my transformation and both my ego and my Higher Self are damn grateful. Now go out there and dive in! Life is not as scary as once I thought.

I'm so glad I discovered this protein powder. I swear I've tried so many that were artificially sweetened or too high in sugar or had toxic ingredients or weren't vegan. (I'm not vegan but I can't do dairy). Or WERE vegan but had like 6 grams of protein instead of 20 - bam! Or were vegan but tasted like shiz-nit. 😬 So yay! Now off to get my #workout on! OH -- here's the recipe: *unsweetened vanilla almond milk (about 1 cup; I never measure!) * handful of #organic frozen strawberries *2 ice cubes (somehow it makes it better just trust me) *scoop of daily fiber *scoop of #nutritionalyeast (pick up at #wholefoods) *2 scoops vanilla protein powder *allllmost a full scoop of super greens *tablespoon almond butter or handful of raw almonds. Blend. It LOOKS gray but tastes yum! Enjoy! #weights #smoothie #almonds #almondmilk #almondbutter #strawberry #super #supergreens #greens #fiber #dailyfiber #vegan #delicious #recipe #20grams #nontoxic #nongmo #healthyfood #health #healthcoach
I finally got my feet-together press-up!!! If you are working on a press-up: here's what helped me the most-- 1. Trust your hands. Trying leaning into them and lifting your heels without attempting to go up. Root through fingertips. Draw thumbs energetically together (this will help you engage arms, hands and scapular strength). 2. Shift your hips over your shoulders by not only engaging bandhas but also rounding through upper spine (finding "Halloween cat" back here). 3. Do innerwork. I always notice big shifts in my physical, outer asana practice when I've done real #innerwork. Remember the outer us a #manifestation of the inner. Good luck!!! #yoga #yogainspiration #yogi #yogini #bandhas #yogitoes #practiceandalliscoming #challenge #goals #yay
Ritual. My #intention was to let go of the idea that I need to let go in favor of instead staying in relationship to all aspects of myself, even the not-so-great parts. Instead of pushing the unfavored parts of the psyche away through dismissal, avoidance or distraction, can we learn to relate to those parts? To ask what they need? What they are really trying to tell us? We separate from them NOT to "let go," as popular spiritual agendas would have us believe, but rather to be related instead of identified. When we identify with and I'm desirable part of ourselves, we become that part of ourselves. If we can stay separated but relate to it, we maintain our sovereign authority. #ritual #letgo #lettinggo #sovereign #authority #relate #relationships #self #carljung #fullmoon #fullmooninvirgo #tarot #symbol #symbolic #identify #innerwork #spiritual #avoidance #spiritualbypass #distraction #awareness #strategicintuitivelifecoaching
