What happens when a coach wants to help a swimmer better understand the catch? 👀
In Miami, Robert Strauss and I started experimenting with a question he had about helping his 15-year-old granddaughter better understand what she’s doing at the beginning of the catch.
We introduced a rotational bow-and-arrow drill — incorporating breath and an inclining fingertip — not as the finished answer, but as a way to begin helping both coach and swimmer feel and visualize what the body is actually doing.
That’s the part of coaching I love.
Before we can improve a movement, sometimes we first have to create a way to see it, feel it and understand it.
Robert started noticing things.
So we kept the camera rolling.
What do you notice?
