Cub Scout Pack 61 - Smyrna, GA Cub Scout Pack 61 is chartered by Bethany United Methodist Church in Smyrna, GA Cub Scout Pack 61 is chartered by Bethany United Methodist Church.

Scouts and their families are welcome to attend services at Bethany, but it is NOT a requirement. Dens are made up of Scouts of the same grade and rank. Dens meet on Tuesdays at 6:45 pm to work on requirements, take trips, or do service projects. The Pack goes camping 2-3 times per year. Cub Scout camping is “family camping”, where all family members are welcome to attend. It’s a great way to learn about camping! Training is required for all adult Leaders, and is provided by Boy Scouts of America and the Atlanta Area Council. Parents of Lion Scouts (kindergarteners) and Tiger Scouts (first graders) MUST stay with their child at all den meetings, pack meetings, campouts, and events. This is a BSA regulation, not a pack regulation, and there are no exceptions. Pack 61 follows the Cobb County Schools calendar. If there is no school, there is no scouts (except Election Day – Bethany UMC is not utilized as a polling place, so we do have scouts that evening). Weather cancellations for school = weather cancellations for scouts.

Zoo Atlanta "Wild Walk"

Registration is now open through October 13th!

This tour gives Cub Scouts of all ages the opportunity to practice the Four C's of Scouting (Clean, Careful, Considerate, and Conservation) while taking a guided one-hour walk through the Zoo with a Zoo Educator to identify and discuss the animals who call the Zoo home. This tour will meet some of the requirements for Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos, and Arrow of Light Outdoors Adventures.

Cost = $20.99 per person (each Scout attending must have at least one adult partner accompany them the entire event) - siblings welcome! Children under 3 are free.

Transportation will not be provided - we will meet at the Zoo's main entrance no later than 10:45 am. Your family is welcome to stay and enjoy the Zoo for the day after the tour is complete.

As we prepare for the 25th anniversary of 9/11, Pack 61 has been invited to participate in a very important Service Project honoring those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, as well as the First Responders and others who served that day.

The City of Smyrna will be curating a special memorial display that will feature flags representing the Twin Towers and will be located on the small hill to the right (north side) of Smyrna City Hall on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 4:00 PM at Smyrna City Hall.

Participating Troops and Packs, along with members of the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation, will place the flags beginning at 4:00 PM on September 10th. We realize that the time of 4:00pm may be a challenge due to school dismissal. We simply ask that families do the best they can considering dismissal times and after-school commitments.

The flags will remain on display throughout the 9/11 anniversary weekend and will be removed on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at 4:00pm. Your presence is requested to help set up and remove flags. We would like to have as many Scouts, parents, and leaders as possible participate in both the placement and removal of the flags. Many hands make light work! If you can attend either setup or takedown (or both), please let Ms. Sharla know as soon as possible.

The official 9/11 25th Anniversary Ceremony will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 8:00 AM in front of Smyrna City Hall. The Smyrna Police and Fire Chiefs will oversee the ceremony, which will include speakers, an Honor Guard, sirens, and a First Responder run. The run will begin at 9:05 AM and conclude by approximately 9:30 AM, with the ceremony lasting about an hour.

This will be a meaningful opportunity for ALL Scouts and families to honor the lives lost on 9/11 and show our support for the men and women of Smyrna’s police and fire departments.

Thank you for helping Scouting America honor this important anniversary and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
