Hoping to see you all in a boat tomorrow (well, not just one boat. That would never work!)

If they don't change my son's soccer schedule for the 100th time, I'll see you there!

Smoke cleared and we are back on the water!
Smoke has cleared enough to get back on the water. Great rowing with you Spokane River Rowing Association!
Someone has been rowing my Hudson XL. Presumably you have my permission. I did NOT grant permission to: (1) change the slides and not return them to where they were; (2) change oar lock washers and not return them to where they were; (3) not reopen the hull ports, post row, so the shell can breath; and, (4) sloppily wipe down the hull. If you can't respect the shell and its owner, please cease and desist. Thanks.
Hi SRRA! Just wondering if there are any updates on Master's Row practices, I just moved to the area from Las Vegas and I'm psyched to get out on the river and enjoy this summer weather!
Just renewed my membership at SRRA... Our season would normally be ramping up about now, but our on-water activity remains uncertain.
Hopefully we can get some rowing in later this summer and fall.
Someday we'll be back on the water...
Hello SRRA members! A 16 year old German exchange student, Lovis, competes with sculling in her home country, and would love to continue it while in America on exchange. She also has been playing the cello since she was 5 years old. Please send me a PM if anyone can help this young lady out somehow. She will be a 2020-21 academic year student. Thanks so much! ~Kathleen Cassidy, representing AYA, Academic Year in America
Passing on some HOTL logistics info in case SRRA or GU teams need it:
Due to a Husky home football game on Saturday November 3rd, there is no parking on Saturday at the UW. This includes E-1 and E-18. If you are arriving with a trailer on Saturday contact Don Kuehn at: [email protected] for alternative parking arrangements.

Limited Parking is available for trailers at LWRC on Saturday and Sunday. You MUST contact Don to make arrangements to park at LWRC.
For TBT- it would be neat to try this. Ancient Biorower 🙂
Safety first.

The Spokane River Rowing Association (SRRA) provides rowing opportunities for the people of the Inland Empire and Greater Spokane area, particularly those who have never before had access to rowing.

The sun will set on our 2021 season soon, but the excitement's not over yet. First we race! Come out and cheer GU and a flight of hardy SRRA masters at this weekend's Head of the Spokane. Racing starts at 9 for the college flights with the masters flight around 10. The Argonne Bridge and Boulder Beach offer views of the course. #morecowbell #rowing

We get asked a lot of questions about youth rowing. Unfortunately, we're not able to support non-masters rowers at this time, but our friends over in Coeur D'Alene have a terrific youth program. Check them out!

Junior Rowing youth 14 to 18 years old starts Monday June 21 at 8am.

SRRA members Carol Anderson Williams, Jim Flaigle, Kat Shultis, and Marnie Schroer competed as a 4-person team in the 8-day Virtual Stonewall Regatta June 5-13th. Marnie Schroer and Guy Marden also competed in the mixed pair competition (the same points counted in each category). The SRRA members put in significant effort earning points for erging, biking, and running/walking. The Adventure Club team (mixed four) placed 7th out of 17. The Buckaroos (mixed pair) placed 8th out of 12. All our competitors had good fun and enjoyed the motivation and comradeship.

Coeur d'Alene Rowing

2021 Learn to Row
The Spokane River Rowing Association (SRRA) will not conduct Learn-to-Row classes during the 2021 rowing season. The uncertainty of Covid-19 health protocols preclude the club from hosting our usual 2-week Learn to Row sessions in 2021. We plan to resume these popular classes taught by experienced rowing coaches in 2022. SRRA will host an introduction to master’s club rowing this summer, date/place to be determined, so please sign up for our Learn to Row email at https://www.spokanerowing.org/wp/contact-us/ for updated information.

However, there are two local options for learn to row opportunities in 2021. These two clubs are also following COVID protocols but have less formal structure governing their programs. Both are offering worthy introduction to rowing opportunities. The Coeur d’Alene Rowing Association, out of Fernan Lake, ID, plans to provide some introductory instruction this year. Details at: https://cdarowing.org/cdarawp-public/. The Pend Oreille Rowing and Paddling Association (PORPA) out of Priest River, ID offers three free introduction to rowing sessions. The program consist of on land sessions for safety and technique theory, rowing technique practice on an ergometer, and hands-on instruction of rowing equipment, both shells and oars. Then, depending on learned and applied skills on the ergometer, one or two on-water sessions on a beginners single. Contact PORPA.org for more information.

Great new podcast for anyone interested in the art of coxing!

From creator Breana Downey:

Hello rowing friends,
In a stereotypical quarantine move, today I am launching my podcast CoxPod, which as the name implies is for coxswains, as well as coaches and rowers who interact with coxswains. I brought two brilliant and skilled coxswain friends in on this with me who many of you know, Anne and Sally, and we launched our first three episodes today. We have a legit website (https://www.coxpod.com!) where you can listen to each episode (you can also find us on any podcast app), and a page right here on Facebook where you can stay up to date on our content, as well as profiles on all other social media platforms. I'm really proud of our visual branding, which was massively supported by an artist who is a member of the rowing community, and who also happens to be a student at the university where I teach!
I hope you'll take a listen and/or share this with your rowing communities, and tell us what you think!

OKC Mayor implores residents to refrain from higher-risk activities for 10 days amid coronavirus spike

Posted by a coxswain friend in OK. Once again demonstrating that rowing is an excellent metaphor for many parts of life:

When your mayor reveals that he's maybe a rower and says the word 'coxswain' on live TV in a coronavirus briefing?? 🤯

"Believe it or not, Oklahoma City is one of the strongest rowing communities in the country. We are the home of an Olympic training facility for rowing and paddle sports. There’s a phrase in rowing. It’s called a power 10. It’s when the coxswain—that’s the person at the front of the boat—asks the rowers for 10 powerful strokes. Obviously the race is a lot longer than 10 strokes, and she knows that. But it’s a little much to ask for a power 1000. So she asks for a power 10. I’m asking you for a power 10 today. I’m asking you for the next 10 days to take a break from higher-risk activities."

https://www.koco.com/article/oklahoma-city-mayor-david-holt-gives-update-on-covid-19-response/34729761#
(quote starts at 11:55 into the video, and you can also enjoy the transcript in which the transcriber had no idea how to write coxswain and just put "--" as a placeholder)

koco.com Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt pleaded with the public Thursday to refrain from higher-risk activities for at least 10 days due to the recent "skyrocketing" spread of COVID-19 in the metro.
