Old Gregg School Playground

Playground memories of today make leaders of tomorrow!

The Old Gregg School Playground was built in 1996 when it was the Spring Mills Elementary School. It is a beloved playground by many generations of families in Penns Valley. Through the years, the current equipment has endured harsh winters and busy summers. With wooden posts beginning to rot, slides having been removed due to cracking, and cables loosening, the Gregg Township Supervisors and the Playground Committee have decided to look toward replacing the equipment. One of the biggest set backs to the current structure, is that it is not A.D.A accessible and therefore we would like to put in a structure that can be enjoyed by everyone. Our goal is to raise $20,000! WE NEED YOU! The Playground Committee has submitted a grant through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. If the grant is funded, we will need to raise a matching $20,000 in order to receive the maximum amount of $40,000. These funds would enable us to purchase new playground equipment that will be safe and accessible for everyone. The playground is an important resource to the Penns Valley Community for this generation and many generations to come. Can't donate? We just appreciate the time you took to check us out! Will you spread the word for us? Share this page and you will be a part of helping us make a difference in the lives of many children and our community!

Mission: Our mission is to provide a fun, safe, and accessible playground for all children in our community.

Remember last week when it was warm and sunny enough to play at the playground? Spring is almost here!

Wow! What a crew! The pavilion was completely assembled by 4pm today and looks GREAT! Thank you to Trevor Fleck for choosing this for his Eagle Scout project and to those who came out today to help him make it happen. This pavilion is the perfect addition to our park and will be well used by many. Who's ready for a picnic?

Something new is coming to the park - a pavilion! Trevor Fleck will be completing the addition of the pavilion for his Eagle Scout project. The holes for the posts have been dug and the construction of the 20x24ft structure will be this weekend. The pavilion will provide shade for families and space for 4 picnic tables!

You can tell it is Spring! The playground has been filled with laughter and friends all week.

It has been a beautiful few days to play at the playground!

Did you see the new/refurbished benches? This is an Eagle Scout project completed by Jared Hurd and is in loving memory of Henry Walker by his parents Bonnie Cirillo and Michael Walker. We would also like to thank Penns Valley Pharmacy, the original donor of the benches, for contributing to their refurbishment. A new picnic table is also part of the project and will be coming soon.

The rest of the sidewalk was poured today! A big thanks to these guys for doing a great job!

The playground sign is in and the parkinglot it is done! Just a little more sidewalk to finish and grass to grow! An Eagle Scout will be refurbishing the two existing benches, building a 3rd bench, and building an ADA accessible octagon picnic table for the playground in memory of Henry, a dear little boy who was killed on Long Street a couple of years ago. In the years to come we are hopeful that an Eagle Scout will build a Pavillion to provide shade for families at the playground!

A nice cloudy day to play...and meet new friends! #Community #NewFriends #GetOutAndPlay

The sidewalk is poured! Thanks to the gentlemen who volunteered to help the crew! I know it looks like a path to nowhere, but the parking lot is getting paved and expanded with a new ADA parking space in a few weeks.

[04/01/16]   Just a quick request: We have had a few people commenting on the trash, food, and cigarette butts that have been found around the playground area. Please be considerate of others and dispose of any garbage or food in the trash receptacles next to the steps of the Old Gregg School. While your food may be biodegradable, small children with food allergies may come in contact with it, so please use the trash can instead. As always, the playground and Old Gregg School Community and Recreation Center is a smoke free area. Help us keep our new playground clean and safe for our children! Thanks for playing and we hope to see more of you as the weather gets better!

[02/29/16]   Did you get a chance to go to the playground this weekend? It has been great to see so many little kids and families enjoying the new equipment! We can't wait until the weather stays nice and we can finish the area around the playground.

The swings are up! There are two belt swings, a toddler swing, and a A.D.A. accessible swing. See you at the playground!

Thanksgiving weekend: Sharing photos by Chris Stump.

Today is a great day to play at the playground! The whole project won't be complete and officially open until spring but the play areas are done!

Whew...spreading stone is HARD WORK! And there is still more to be spread...it has to be 6 inches deep. We will be at it again tomorrow if you want to bring a shovel and lend a hand!

Today was Cement Day! Now the playground isn't going anywhere! A big "Thanks" to the guys who came out to help. Tomorrow we will be shoveling the stones that lay beneath 12 inches of mulch for drainage! It certainly was a beautiful day to build a playground...

The frame for the swings is up!

The smaller structure is mostly assembled! The swings will be going up next...then it is straightening/leveling the structures to pour concrete in the holes next week (all depending on the rain, of course). It looks better and better each day! This crew is doing a great job and we are so thankful!

The rain isn't stopping this crew from working on the playground! The largest structure is almost completely assembled. It is looking great! More pictures of the build to come...

Finally a sunny day! We hope you stopped by to play...only a few months until the new playground goes in. Are you excited?! See you around!

We are working hard with our engineers to finalize the plans for the new playground and the parking!

[05/29/15]   Aside from swings (which we are very excited for), what is a "must-have" for your family for the new playground?

We made the Channel 10 news! Check out the story about our playground project...

[04/13/15]   Have you been down to play at the playground yesterday or today? The weather was perfect! It is our goal for your children to be playing on brand new playground equipment sometime in July! Thanks for all your continued support!
