A hot summer is approaching, and soon we will all be flocking to nearby rivers to cool off and connect with nature. Before you grab your swimsuit, here are a few important water safety reminders:
🛟It doesn't matter if you're a kid, an adult, or even an Olympic swimmer; life jackets save lives. The life jacket kiosk at Clearwater Park is restocked and open. If you don't have a life jacket, borrow one from the kiosk and be sure to return it so others can benefit from this resource. (Thank you, Eugene Springfield Fire, Cabela's, and Lane Professional Firefighters, Local 851, for making this kiosk available.)
🚫Make sure you know your route and are aware of hazards. The Willamette and McKenzie Rivers are dynamic waterways, not lazy rivers. River conditions are constantly changing; scout ahead and choose a vessel that enables you to steer. Before launching, check posted signs for regulations and warnings. On the Willamette River, it is highly advised that river-goers take out at the West D St Boat Ramp to avoid the low-head dam, located .3 miles downstream.
The grass is greener at Camp Putt Adventure Golf Park now that new turf has been installed! We recently replaced turf on several holes on the Thunder Falls course and a few on the Cascade Springs course. There were a few other improvements as well, like replacing some fencing and adding new features to the "Dam Beaver!" hole (hole #12 on Thunder Falls).
Camp Putt is currently open Fridays, 4-7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays, 12-7 p.m. Summer hours begin June 12. Learn more at willamalane.org/putt

Springfield: Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote in the May 19 election. Lane County elections updated numbers this afternoon, and Willamalane’s levy is now narrowly ahead by 218 votes, with 50.69% yes and 49.31% no, continuing the trend we’ve seen since the original results on Tuesday evening.
The counting is not over, and it is still too close to definitively call. The next updated numbers won’t come until Thursday next week. Meanwhile, we just want to share our gratitude for being Springfield’s park and recreation district. Regardless of the final outcome, Willamalane is committed to serving this community and will find a way to continue to do so.

How are you getting out and celebrating bike month?! Springfield has more than 16 miles of scenic multi-use paths to explore. One of our favorites is the Middle Fork Path, which connects Clearwater Park, Georgia Pacific Natural Area, and Dorris Ranch in a four-mile stretch along the Middle Fork Willamette River. Here are a few reminders when strolling the paths:
These paths are shared by many types of users. To keep yourself and others safe, stay to the right, alert before passing, and go a safe speed. And don't forget your helmet! Check out the City of Springfield bike map and Willamalane parks and trails maps at willamalane.org/places

Willamalane has referred a measure to the May 19, 2026, ballot. The proposed levy would help bridge funding gaps to preserve current levels of service, while the district would continue to seek additional revenue strategies to support long-term sustainability and close those gaps. If passed, the measure would help fund the following programs and services:
🪵Removal of dead and overgrown vegetation to prevent wildfires
💧Protection of wildlife habitat and water quality
🚮Trash collection and reduction of illegal dumping
🌳Park patrols to ensure safety
🏊♂️Facility and pool hours
🎟️Community events
🫧Daily park maintenance and restroom cleaning
🧘Recreation and wellness programs for seniors
👩🏫Affordable summer camps and preschools
If not passed, programs and services would not be provided as proposed, and property taxes would not be increased. Find cost details, determine if you are in or out-of-district, look up your property’s assessed value (this is different from market value), and view FAQs at willamalane.org/levy

The mountain bike trails at Thurston Hills Natural Area are now open for dry-weather riding! 🚵♂️
Check out the trail map at willamalane.org/thurstonhills
A few notes: Upper Camas Crest remains closed. Avoid riding mountain bike trails when the ground is wet, as this damages the trail. Be courteous to hikers on shared trails and at intersections.
