Fun little 9 mile ride up Hobble Creek Canyon tonight. It’s a beatify ride, but we decided to work a little harder and didn’t get to enjoy the show much. So lucky to be so close to some awesome trails. @ Springville, Utah

Conclusions on e-bikes from a review of several studies: "This scoping review identified 76 studies that examined the role of e-cycling on a variety of behavioral and psychological outcomes. The research consistently demonstrated that e-bikes serve to increase cycling frequency and duration and can substitute for motorized transportation particularly short car journeys. With half of all car journeys in the UK being between 1 and 5 miles in length (Department for Transport, 2019) e-bikes represent a viable sustainable alternative means of transport for a large proportion of car journeys."

Are e-bikes good exercise? Here are the results of several studies that conclude ... YES DEFINATELY!!
"On the basis of a real-world setting, our study showed that [e-bikes] could be a suitable method to enhance health-promoting physical activity in healthy adults. While the average physiological response is high enough to achieve beneficial adaptions, individual preconditions need to be taken into account for every [e-bike] user." 2020 Study
"Participants rode a [e-bike] in the real world at a self-selected moderate intensity, which helped them meet physical activity recommendations. [E-bikes] are an effective form of active transportation that can improve some cardiometabolic risk factors within only 4 weeks." 2016 Study
"Cycling on the E-bike resulted in lower trip duration and exercise intensity, compared with the conventional bicycle. However, most of the time was spent in MVPA [moderate to vigorous physical activity]. This suggests that changing the commuting mode from car to E-bike will significantly increase levels of physical activity while commuting." 2017 Study
"This pilot study suggests that e-bikes are an active form of transportation capable of providing much of the cardiovascular health benefits obtained during conventional bike use. E-bikes may help reduce some of the obstacles to conventional bike use, such as increased transportation time, decreased convenience, and physical fatigue." 2018 Study
"The average heart rate during [e-bike] use was 94% (31/33) of the average heart rate during conventional mountain bike use. Therefore, [e-bike] use in this study achieved a majority of the exercise response and exceeded established biometric thresholds for cardiovascular fitness. Participants overwhelmingly perceived the potential impact of [e-bike] use to be positive on both pre- and post-[e-bike] ride questionnaires." 2019 Study
"Access to different bike types for parents with children attending kindergarten resulted in overall increased cycling, decreased car use and higher intrinsic motivation for cycling. E-bikes obtained the greatest cycling amount in total, with the smallest sample variability. Hence, providing parents with children in kindergarten with access to e-bikes might result in increased and sustained cycling, also during the winter season." 2019 Study
