Great weekend racers! More memories for the books!

Race #2 is in the books and I wanted to thank all of our Billygoat families for being flexible and adapting to the unexpected change in the weekend schedule.

BIG thank you to the MICL staff for communicating to all of the teams in advance and for getting everything ready to race on Saturday morning. It went off without a hitch. It's always tough to make a call based on weather forecasts, but I think there's no doubt the league made the right call. Thank you for always having a plan B and for all that you do.

Race weekends are tough in general and it's always difficult to adapt and shuffle plans on the fly when the weather doesn't want cooperate. We ended up having a beautiful day of racing on a fantastic trail, with near perfect weather.

Everyone earned their Sunday back and I hope you're enjoying it.

I overheard the league director telling a nervous rider not to worry about the race, as it's "just a little bit of anxiety and then it's over". That is a great way to summarize how race weekends feel for a lot of us. It's extremely common (and normal) to get anxious, nervous, etc before the race, and then realize it's not that big of a deal after about 10 pedal strokes into the actual race. I told one nervous rider that he should just think of this as an opportunity to go ride a new trail and forget its even a race. That worked for him and it's the right mindset for most of our athletes. We're out there to compete, but mostly to have fun riding bikes.

I'm proud of every single rider's performance yesterday.

Did you know that the Jeffco Billygoats Mountain Bike Team has a best selling author as a coach? His pen name is E.E. Isherwood, but our team knows him as Coach Brian K. He writes post-apocalyptic novels, with some of them being set in the greater St Louis area. Trust me when I tell you they are creative, fun, fast reads and it's cool to see St Louis set as the backdrop at times.

What a great race weekend. The weather was nearly perfect. The Warsaw Shawnee Bend venue was amazing and the trails were dusty and fast for our riders.

There are a lot of new faces on the team this year and they all did an awesome job at their first race. Everyone rode hard. They took the message to heart and gave it their all, while smiling and having fun. I'm very proud of all of our Billygoats this weekend.

While making the podium is a special achievement that we celebrate, that's not our focus on race weekends. Each racer has their own individual goals for every race and that's what we focus on. This race, for a large part of our team, it was about getting that first race under their belt and working through those normal nerves. For others, it was about managing pacing and endurance as they moved up in categories and lap counts.

Podium is icing on the cake when it happens. Special congrats to Kellen, Drake, Sam and Ava for making it to the podium this weekend.

It takes a lot to put on a successful race and this week was no exception. We have great families and support on this team and in the league. Race weekends can be exhausting, but they make life long memories and are totally worth it.

Thank you to everyone who made this weekend happen. There were a lot of happy kids and parents that had a blast in Warsaw this weekend. Now, on to Binder Lake!
