Shine Outstanding Starz

I’m going to say this once and move on.

One of the best pieces of advice I was ever given in the majorette world was this: if you’re making everybody happy, you’re probably doing it wrong.

Since day one, I’ve stayed committed to building this organization for the youth and families who truly benefit from it. The competitions we host are meant to create opportunities and platforms for young people to showcase their talent — because for many of them, these opportunities would not exist otherwise.

Are we perfect? No. We make mistakes just like anyone else. But what we will always be is genuine, fair, and intentional in what we do.

Some teams have become so focused on trophies, numbers, and appearances that they lose sight of the real purpose: the kids.

I want to be very clear — neither I, nor my staff or coaches, have ever targeted or shown favoritism toward any team or individual. We simply don’t operate that way.

If you feel disappointed, that’s your right. If you don’t agree with a competition outcome, that’s okay too. But questioning the character and integrity of myself or this organization is something I won’t accept.

Outstanding Starz is something I do out of passion and love for these young people. I’m approachable, and if there’s ever an issue, come talk to me directly instead of creating division publicly.

At the end of the day, what’s most disappointing is seeing adults tear down other teams while young people are watching. While some are hoping for another organization’s downfall, I’m genuinely praying for everyone’s success — because there are kids depending on all of us to lead, guide, and set an example.

Please remember: they are watching us.

Akeylah, also known as “Keyz,” has been an incredible part of our team for the past three seasons. From day one, she has brought a special energy and a level of commitment that never wavered. Watching her grow, push herself, and evolve as a dancer has truly been something special.

Keyz, you’ve been a joy to coach and to watch—your passion, determination, and spirit have left a lasting impact on this team. Your presence, both on and off the floor, will be deeply missed.

As you prepare to begin your next chapter at Grambling University this fall, know that we are beyond proud of you and everything you’ve accomplished. Keep shining, keep growing, and never stop chasing your dreams.

Mekayla Wilson, also known as “Quiet Storm,” has been a powerful force with the Outstanding Starz since 2016. From her early days to now, we’ve had the honor of watching her grow into a strong, dedicated, and inspiring young woman who truly embodies what it means to commit to your passion.

Serving as Team Captain from 2024–2026, Mekayla led with strength, grace, and determination—setting the standard for those who follow behind her. Her presence on the floor is unforgettable, and her signature strut? Absolutely unmatched. She didn’t just dance—she made a statement every single time.

As one of the original “day ones,” Mekayla helped build the foundation of what Outstanding Starz is today. Her impact goes far beyond performances—she has left a lasting mark on this team and in our hearts.

As she prepares to attend Lincoln University this fall, we celebrate all she’s accomplished and all that’s ahead. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Once a Star, always a Star. 💫

Blu in St. Lou presented by Frederic and Ronza CREATES was so kind for allowing the girls to be in the spotlight while they performed and told stories of the blues and its impact on musical genres like Rock & Roll and R&B.
St Louis is the heart of the blues. The girls got to perform along side live instruments for the first time. They did amazing. 💜
