Ok, tell me your favorite pet friendly restaurant.
I enrolled Lexie in a beginning agility class that started last week. First class did not involve the agility equipment but rather some basic concepts and exercises. On the actual exercises she did pretty well. However she seemed to forget she knew any basic obedience which left me a little frustrated. Fast forward to tonight and she was a different dog. Her basic obedience wasn't as good as I would like for it to be but otherwise she did great. We got to use the actual equipment tonight and she was a rockstar.
I love seeing progress. Today I got off my day job early and contacted a client to see if she was available for a session. She had just arrived at the dog park and said no one was there so I hurried over. In our initial meeting she indicated that recall was one of her biggest struggles. That's what we have focused on the most. Long story short, a bird swooped by and off went the dog after it. The dog left the bird mid chase and recalled beautifully. Both the owner and I were very pleased. I am giving all the credit to the client. I know she is working very hard between sessions and it's showing.
Delayed post. It's so easy to get frustrated with training your dog. A lot of things don't progress as quickly as we would like. We often don't give our dogs or ourselves enough credit. Last week Lexie and I were out and about and came across a discarded sandwich on the ground. I saw it before she did and waited to see if she noticed it. The very second she saw it I gave a "leave it" command and she walked right passed it without a second thought. Today at the dog park I asked Lexie to leave it on a tennis ball and she did. An observer was so impressed, then I told him about the sandwich which impressed him even more. That is kinda huge but also just run of the mill, every day for us. Don't lose sight of the journey and successes you have had so far. There are always gonna be those discouraging days. Don't forget to claim all your victories, but share them with your dog .
