The Yata no Kagami Dojo

The Yata no Kagami Dojo was established in 1981 in Florissant, Missouri. By 1994, the Yata no Kagami Dojo had become the Yata no Kagami Yudanshakai and at its peak, had over 1,100 members attending regular classes at seven different dojo.

Over the years, instruction has been offered in a variety of martial arts. Many competitions, seminars, clinics, training camps, and other important events were sponsored by the Yudanshakai.

We teach the classical martial arts of Judo and Jujitsu. Membership is small, and is limited to those who are dedicated to learning. Most of our current members started training long ago, and their dedication and hard work now allow them to give back to the martial arts by teaching others.

The name Yata no Kagami comes from an old Japanese legend. The Yata no Kagami is an eight sided mirror – it is said to reflect one’s true or inner self. Since the mirror reflects everything truthfully, it is a traditional symbol for wisdom and honesty, and is still seen frequently in Japan.
