Thanks to Litigating Literacy for this poignant post!

Somewhere along the way, reading failure became normalized.

Children being years behind became normal.

โ€œWait and seeโ€ became normal.

Parents asking hard questions became the problem.

It should be the other way around.

The problem is not parents demanding literacy.

The problem is a system that has become comfortable with too many children struggling to read.

Thanks to Georgia Ryan - Dyslexic Warrior for sharing this excellent post from Learning Ally!

โ€œAs a school student that was able to keep up with my peers and even do well in school, meant that many of my teacherโ€™s assumptions that I was โ€œtoo smartโ€ to be dyslexic, led to years of delay in getting assessed, despite the fact that I was doing more and more hours of homework and struggling in every lesson.
This was not the fault of my teachers, as how can we blame teachers that werenโ€™t adequately trained to identify and support the needs of struggling readers.

We need to ensure EVERY teacher is trained to ensure EVERY child is taught to read!โ€

Thanks to Decoding Dyslexia-IA for sharing this post with a quote from Dr. Kelli Sandman-Hurley!

Yes, our children with dyslexia struggle to readโ€”daily. However, when school districts & their teachers do agree to accept, learn & implement the strategies & methods to truly help them read effectively, then we will experience more equitable learning for all!

Thanks to History Retraced for this inspiring post!

๐Ÿช™ Down to his absolute financial limit in the spring of 1974, a struggling Henry Winkler walked into an ABC audition that would decide his entire future.

๐Ÿ›‘ Because producers restricted the scripts to the casting office, actors were forced to perform a cold reading on the spotโ€”a nightmare scenario for someone with a hidden literacy barrier.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ To survive the audition, Winkler ingeniously asked a rival actor to read the lines aloud, relying entirely on his sharp auditory memory to copy and memorize the text by ear.

๐Ÿ๏ธ His vocal reading of the cool, leather-jacketed character Arthur Fonzarelli was so complete that the mesmerized creators canceled the rest of the day's auditions on the spot.

๐Ÿ’ก It wasn't until age 31 that Winkler discovered he had severe dyslexia, transforming his past trauma into inspiration to write a beloved children's book series about a dyslexic hero.
