TOPIC: STOP DOING WHAT’S EASY

Who’s been guilty of doing less when a coach/instructor isn’t watching? Ive been there before when I was younger. But as I got older one thing I remember learning is when you think no one is looking, someone is watching you to see what you are doing. Anytime I’ve trained I’ve trained as best as I can whether an instructors eye were on me or not. Because of my profession it’s imperative my training reflects what I’m coaching. So if I’m giving maximal effort it’s not because my coach is watching me, it’s because someone might be looking at me for inspiration.

Set the example and stop doing things that won’t change you for the better.

So this is a struggling post that I find difficult to post because it does remind me when I was at my heaviest.

So you’ve all seen my before picture where I was at my heaviest. Back before 2013 I was an office worker. I worked an average 9-10 hour days sitting in an office. Back then I was told working in an office job was supposed to be how my career went.

Little did I know I would spend the next 13-14 some years packing the weight onto my small frame. I was on average 130 lbs my first year of college. I was fairly active but with little to no guidance of food or the gym. Basically I just moved as best as I could.

I spent the early parts of my 20’s partying in night clubs, seeing a ton of violence on the weekends, lots of drinking (mostly beer) and lots of chain smoking ci******es. Accompanying that with lots of food, stress from work, and using the weekends as an excuse to say I earned my weekend. This eventually led to a weight gain and topping off 187 lbs on the scale.

During this time I was at a point I said screw it let’s see how big I can get cause I didn’t love myself and no confidence. Hell I didn’t even want to take my shirt off.

My turning point was when I was let go from my govt contracting job, I wasn’t working, going through a separation/divorce. I didn’t have a support system except for my team at Pentagon MMA who helped me realign my career, allowed me to train and teach and give back what I never had.

Fast forward to today. With their continued support my wife, children, and Fight Team I have a better understanding of what my purpose is and how to set an example for those that I coach.

So if you’re reading this and this resonates with you, just know that if you need a support system through you Health and Fitness I am here.

I got off the Struggle Bus! I will gladly help you get off of yours!

TOPIC: DON’T EVER LET SOMEONE’S WORDS DICTATE YOUR INTENTION!!

Have you ever tried multiple dietary plans, only to fail, give up, or got lazy with? And the worse part is the people around us have something to say in regards to your attempts so they automatically say “well you quit all the time! Why invest in the time and money to try something new?!”

Well here’s the thing, the reason why we all try different avenues is that we are trying to look for what works! If something doesn’t work, we try something new.

So I don’t know who needs to hear this but stop putting people down just because in your eyes they are “quitters.” Instead lift them up and encourage them. Maybe it’s your boost of morale is what will help those that are truly trying to fully succeed.

TOPIC: DON’T LET SOMEONE’S WORDS DICTATE YOUR ACTIONS!!

Have you tried multiple diets or fitness routines only to give up. Rather than assuming the person isn’t committed to the journey, what if they are simply trying multiple things out to see what works. And rather than being discouraging towards them, you should be encouraging them.

Remember nothing is perfect on the first go around. It’s about progressing to something that IS sustainable!

TOPIC: THE SCALE IS NOT YOUR ENEMY!

Understanding your body is super important to understanding how fat loss works. It’s really easy to be discouraged by stepping on the scale because we don’t see any change and if we do we may see the scale goes up! This leaves us psychologically upset with ourselves.

The scale does not determine yourself worth, but it does show you data driven information! Have a listen.

I bet you were thinking I was gonna say results huh😉

Well there’s excuses and than there’s excuses. Both doesn’t get you anywhere. Where’s the punch line to this? Well I’ve been guilty in my past of putting excuses in my health and nutrition just like everyone else.

It’s either:
-I’ll start tomorrow, next Monday, insert other excuse. “Been there done that”

-Well I ate too much, might as well keep going (see above excuse). “Been there done that multiple times

-Eating healthy is too expensive! Well so is a medical bill for being unhealthy so what is worse? $150 a week for grocery or a 20-50k medical bill that will ruin your finances and your ability to function. “Thankfully I haven’t gotten to this point and don’t intend to be.”

-My partner supports me but doesn’t really need to be coached. “Been there before and it’s very hard to do things on your own. But the mindset is something that is required if you choose to walk this path with only me beside you to help guide you. You can have excuses or you can have excuses. Both will not garnish success. Use the lack of support as a form of motivation. Sometimes we have to walk paths on our own. But be the light where there is darkness. Remember people are watching you when you make changes that are positive.”

-I can’t find anything that works. “There are multiple avenues that one can take. It’s about sustainability. It could take a day or even months to find that sustainability out. If you were given a task at your job and you only know 1 or 2 ways to do it, yet there was a 3rd and 4th option that made your work better but requires you to experiment with different ideas , would you ignore it?”

So when it comes to your health, find balance! Nothing has to be strictly regimented all the time, that’s not progress, that’s stressful. Finding balance means accepting what the scenario is being presented and finding ways to better it or to make the best of the situation.

IF YOUR MINDSET IS NEGATIVE, YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE NEGATIVITY IN YOUR HEAD. THE WORLD IS NOT BLACK AND GRAY, IT’S COLORFUL WITH UPS AND DOWNS. EITHER ADAPT AND OVERCOME OR STAY BACK WITH THE REST OF THE NEGATIVITY!
