#7: Coach Pieper and Stoughton earn their 7th WIAA State Title
As we continue to celebrate 50 special moments in WI's proud wrestling history, #7 highlights the incredible career of George Martin Hall of Fame inductee LaVerne (Vern) Pieper (1979), and his Team's 7th WIAA State Wrestling Championship earned in 1988, which scored a then record setting 140 points.
Stoughton won seven team state wrestling championships in Vern Pieper’s 33 years as head coach – 1968, 1972, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1987 and 1988. He was one of the initial organizers of the Wisconsin Wrestling Federation and became the organization’s first president, and is member of the Wisconsin and national wrestling halls of fame.
