Personal Trainer, Kristine Martin is a graduate of the National Personal Training Institute. The Program she studied is the National Association of Sports Medicine,( NASM). She is also a certified Kettlebell instructor.

Good morning! Its going to be a beautiful day. I hope everyone had an opportunity to witness the eclipse yesterday. Our son has informed us, that there will be another one in 2024, which will be even better than yesterdays.
I'm posting today because I would like to talk about good posture while driving, but truly we need healthy posture habits anytime. The average person sits in their car 17,600 minutes a year...add in sitting on a plane, train, bus, or at home.
When driving your hands should be at 9 and 3 o'clock at all times, left foot flat on the floor and aligned with your hips, Seats straight up. Please do not recline your seat and drive with one arm.... your over extending the shoulder, your spine is not aligned properly, which will cause issues later on if continued. There is another benefit to being posture perfect, your body is in good proprioception mode. If heaven forbid you needed to react quickly, your body posture will allow you to react properly.

It was a hot day today! I love the heat, but could do without the humidity. I'm lucky I have curly hair! 😊.
So, as promised I'm going to start posting about the breath, posture and the benefits to meditation. Let's start with a little facts on the breath. When we are born we naturally belly breath, but as we age we slowly change and begin to chest breath. I remember checking on our children when they were baby's sleeping in their crib, leaning over to see if there chest was rising and falling and their little bellies would rise as well. Belly breathing is important to learn, because the lower part of our lungs is the richest in oxygen. The breath brings oxygen to your organs, so it's basically bringing good stuff to the places in your body that needs it. Abdominal breathing will also help with anxiety, and stress. I want you to lay flat on your back with one hand on your chest, the other on your belly. Take a deep breath through your noise using your diaphragm and feel your belly rise, your chest will rise a little. Exhale through your mouth slowly, releasing any tension that is in your body. Repeat again with three deep breaths and then exhale slowly. Continue with normal inhale and exhale..clearing your mind.

Good morning! It has been awhile since I posted, but that is about to change. I'm sure many of you are familiar with meditation, I have been practicing meditation and relaxation on myself and have incorporated it into my training programs. Meditation and breathing techniques have been studied and confirmed that they help in our daily lives to reduce stress and anxiety. For the remainder of the summer, I will be posting meditation practices and tips to help better calm our body and minds.

I would like to post a few facts on how walking can benefit you. Of course exercise in general is important, but as we age we loose muscle mass and bone density. Walking.... has minimal strain on our joints, and will help with many number of physiological/psychological challenges.
I'm listing just a few that I believe to be most important:

. coronary heart disease/stroke

Today was a wonderful first day of spring! Sadly, no snowshoeing. 😕. Beautiful day, but too warm for snowshoeing, and snow is melting fast! Look forward to next year!

Snow! A lot of it!! Let's snow shoe. Orchard fitness is having a snow shoe excursion this Saturday at 9:30am, arrival time 9:00am. Bring your snow shoes and join me in an orchard walk in the snow. The day is going to be partly sunny and around 40 degrees...perfect! Hot chocolate, coffee and lemon water will be provided after our 2 hour walk. We will start at my studio on Boon rd. Stretching out first, then we will head out.
$25.00 per person
