Club RSTKD was formed in honor and recognition of Grand Master Ray Smith and Master Donna Smith. Yes! We are open! But Ray Smith's Taekwondo has changed names!!

We aspire to grow by teaching proper Kukkiwon forms, one-steps for self defense, and proper sparring techniques. We are now Club RSTKD! (Short for Club Ray Smith's Taekwondo in honor of Grandmaster Smith.) And we are excited to continue to offer the same high quality instruction that was provided to us by Grandmaster Smith! As most of you know, Grandmaster Smith's Dojang officially closed its door

s during the start of the pandemic and Grandmaster Smith took a long overdue retirement. However, many of us wanted to continue on his legacy and have set up a club to continue to meet and train. A local church has given us a place to practice and meet. Master Marriott is continuing to teach on a regular basis and Grandmaster Smith has even promised to stop by once a while and visit, instruct or just chat. We will remain primarily a competition group, but competition is not necessary. And just as before, we will NEVER require contracts. You pay for only the nights you attend. There are similar requirements for advancement. Forms and one steps will not change. Since Master Marriott and Grandmaster Smith will remain involved, we will still offer the same timelines for advancement and World Tae Kwon Do Federation Kukkiwon belt certifications for black belts. We will not have classes as regularly as at Ray Smith's Taekwondo. But we will try to have classes every Monday and Wednesday night and may add more in the future if attendance and availability of instructors increases. We are a club and not a business. We are just a group of individuals meeting for the love of the sport. Grand Master Smith has always said "If a local church will give me a free place to teach, I would teach for free." So that's what we decided to do! We only charge to cover costs of supplies, insurance and to give a donation to the church as a "Thank You" for allowing us to use the building. We are otherwise completely nonprofit and all of the instructors are volunteers. We are still South Carolina's most award winning Tae Kwon Do program at the State, National and International levels and are still based in Summerville, SC. Taekwondo is one of the most systematic and scientific Korean traditional martial arts, that teaches more than physical fighting skills. It is a discipline that shows ways of enhancing our spirit and life through training our body and mind. Today, it has become a global sport that has gained an international reputation, and stands among the official games in the Olympics. Beginner/Intermediate classes will be Mondays and Tuesdays from 5:15-6:30p. Advanced classes will be from 6:30-7:30p. We also have sparring 2-3 times per month on Thursdays from 5:15-7:30p.
